Lady Ramblers out of the gate with 2-0 start
The LaFayette High School girls’ tennis team began the season 2-0 after road wins this past Wednesday and Thursday.
On Wednesday, they traveled to Summerville and beat Chattooga by a 4-1 count.
Playing Pro-8’s, Madison Denny opened singles’ play with an 8-0 win over Megan Hardin and Rachel Wallin defeated Chasity Evans, 8-1. Chattooga’s lone point came at No. 3 singles where Katelyn Kiser beat Aubrey Steadman, 8-3.
In doubles, the team of Asberri Freeman and Madison Harris took down Mia Crider and Chloe Rosser, 8-2, while Hannah Durham and Ida Scoggins beat Ciera Lewis and Lexi Kerley, 8-0.
LaFayette’s Miranda Hobbs scored an 8-1 exhibition singles win over Alexis Cordell, while the Lady Ramblers’ team of Micaela Hobbs and Macy Brewer won their exhibition doubles match, 8-4.
Then on Thursday, in Ringgold, the Orangeand-Black clawed the Lady Tigers, 4-1.
Denny defeated Laura Beth Nalley, 6-1, 6-2, while Wallin beat Isabella Sweatt, 6-3, 6-2. Ringgold’s lone win came as Allissa Brumner held off Steadman, 7-5, 6-2.
Freeman and Harris breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Hali Clements and Callie Gilbert, while Durham and Scoggins scored a 6-4, 6-4 win over MiKayla Dycus and Maggie Wentworth.
LaFayette’s Lauren Torbett won 7-6 in an abbreviated exhibition singles match, while Micaela Hobbs and Brewer won their exhibition doubles match, 8-5.
The match was the first of the season for the Lady Tigers (0-1).
LaFayette will be at home on Wednesday at 4 p.m. versus LFO. They will play at Ridgeland on Thursday (4 p.m.) and will close out the week at home against Trion on Friday (4 p.m.).
