LaFayette continues pre-region prep work

The LaFayette Ramblers made it five wins in their last six games with a 5-2 nonregion home victory over struggling Model on Thursday night.

The Blue Devils took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first against LaFayette starter Ty Fisher, but LaFayette would answer back with two runs in the home half of the inning before picking up a solo run in the second.

Model pulled back to within one after plating a run in the top of third, but two insurance runs in the fifth would end up being plenty for the home team.

Fisher got the victory after giving up two runs - one unearned - on three hits in four innings’ of work. He struck out one and didn’t record a single walk. Logan Teasley had a threeinnin­g save, scattering two hits and finishing with two strikeouts.

John James had two of LaFayette’s eight hits, while the red-hot Brady Anderson singled, doubled, drove in his 14th run of the season and stole a base.

A.J. Buck had a double and an RBI, while Teasley and Blake Guffey also recorded one RBI each.

Caleb Heard took the loss for the Blue Devils. He gave up eight hits and five runs - three earned - in six innings with two strikeouts and a walk. He also had a double at the plate.

Trion 14, LaFayette 4

The Ramblers’ winning ways came to a crashing halt on Friday as they trailed 5-1 after four innings before giving up nine runs in the top of the fifth to the visiting Bulldogs.

LaFayette hurt itself by making 10 errors in the loss.

Evan Walker, Cole Phillips and Hagan Willingham had two hits each in the win for the Bulldogs. Phillips and Willingham had two RBIs each, while Walker and Ty Reynolds knocked in one apiece.

Phillips also got the win, throwing four innings and allowing one earned run on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Blaine Woody pitched the fifth for the Bulldogs.

Five pitchers threw for the Ramblers with Trent Currie starting the game and taking the loss. Ethan Stephenson went 2-for-3. Caleb Boyd had a hit and drove in two runs. Buck was 1-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI, while Teasley and Anderson had one hit each.

Dade County 3, LaFayette 2

On Saturday, the Ramblers gave up two runs in the top of the sixth inning and suffered a home loss to the Wolverines.

Teasley had three of the six hits for LaFayette. He also scored a run and drove in a run. Anderson had a double and another RBI, while Buck and Stephenson had one hit apiece.

Both teams left several runners on base in the game. Dade County stranded seven runners, while LaFayette left on eight. The Ramblers also hurt their chances by making four more errors.

Greg Templeton got the win for Dade County. He gave up two runs, one earned, in five innings, allowing four hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out 10.

Four pitchers threw for LaFayette. Teasley started, but got no decision. Buck, the third pitchers used by the Ramblers, was tagged with the loss.

LaFayette (5-4) will play Tuesday at LFO. First pitch is slated for 5:55 p.m. The Ramblers will return home on Thursday (5:30) to take on Chattooga before LFO comes to south Walker County on Friday (5:30).
