GDOT awards more than $244 million in statewide projects Northwest Georgia claims nearly $4 million, including Armuchee Road repaving
The Georgia Department of Transportation has awarded 23 contracts for statewide transportation projects totaling $244,142,102.
The 17 counties of Northwest Georgia claimed nearly $ million in two construction project awards. These projects were advertised in January, bids were received on Feb. 17, and contracts were awarded on March 3 to the lowest qualified bidder. The awards focus on construction and operational improvements that enhance safety and address congestion, and resurfacing and maintenance projects.
The project to resurface 11.314 miles on Ga. Highway 201 in Walker and Whitfield counties is this month’s top dollar investment in Northwest Georgia. Valued at $2,028,920, the resurfacing contract was awarded to Northwest Georgia Paving Inc. of Calhoun. The existing pavement on Ga. Highway 201, commonly known as East Armuchee Road, from Ga. Highway 136 in Walker County to Ga. Highway 3 in Whitfield County is deteriorating and needs resurfacing.
The other awarded contract in Northwest Georgia will resurface 6.250 miles on Ga. Highway 337 in Chattooga County, beginning at Hair Lake Road and extending to the Walker County line. The value of this contract is $1,414,441. It was awarded to Talley Construction Company Inc. of Rossville.
The largest investment is a contract for the second and third phases of the Interstate 16/Interstate 75 Interchange Reconstruction Project in the city of Macon in Bibb County. The two phases, valued at $148.7 million, widen over 3.8 miles of I-75 from Hardeman Avenue through its interchange with I-16, and include construction of 11 bridges and approaches. The goal is to improve traffic flow and enhance the safety of the I-16/I-75 interchange by adding capacity to both corridors. The contract was awarded to E.R. Snell Contractor Inc. of Snellville with an anticipated completion by summer 2021.
Georgia DOT continues to tackle deferred maintenance and preservation of existing infrastructure with 16 awards totaling $34.2 million for resurfacing and maintenance of 166 miles of state highways.
Information on construction and lane closure schedules on these projects will be forthcoming before work begins.
