Walker County golfers take two biggest awards at GL Boys Invitation­al

The low medalist and the team champion of Saturday’s 2017 Gordon Lee Boys’ Invitation­al at Canyon Ridge Golf Club both came from Walker County.

Gordon Lee’s Justin Hickman was the only golfer to break par as he shot a 1-under par 70 to win top honors. LaFayette took home the team title with a very solid round of 299 and a 17-stroke victory over runner-up Mt. Paran Christian (316).

LaFayette’s Gage Smith and Cole Ingram each shot 2-over 73 to earn a spot on the AllTournam­ent Team. They were joined by another Rambler, Jon Morgan, who carded a 76.

Carter Grant’s 77 rounded out the team score. Riley Grant (78) and Matthew Ingram (82) also played for the Orange-and-Black.

It was LaFayette’s second tournament win of the season to go with a runner-up finish at the Athens Classic.

Host Gordon Lee shot a 325 to take third. Along with Hickman’s 70, Tucker Windham and Tucker Graham each shot an 81, followed by Christian Boyd’s 93. Cole Walker (95) and Gunnar Williams (105) also teed it up for the Trojans.

The rest of the field included Christian Heritage (326), Northwest Whitfield (341), Coahulla Creek (343), Calhoun (348), Dalton (350), Sonoravill­e (352), Southeast Whitfield (359), Bremen (361), Heritage (366) and Gilmer (379).

Southeast’s Matthew Cleary (74), Bremen’s Tyler Lipscomb (75) and Christian Heritage’s Harden Chambless (76) also earned spots on the All-Tournament Team.

Ramblers fifth, Trojans sixth at NGI

LaFayette’s boys struggled at The Farm in Dalton this past Thursday and finished fifth in the North Georgia Invitation­al.

Smith had a 76 for the Orange-and-Black, but the team came in with a total of 333. Hickman led sixth-place Gordon Lee (342) with a 79.

Ridgeland competes at Brown Acres

Ridgeland’s golf team faced LFO in a match at Brown Acres Golf Course in Chattanoog­a this past Thursday.

Christa Parrish led the Lady Panthers with a 54, followed by a 61 from Lauren Cain. On the boys’ side, Tristin Burks carded a 57 and Justin Carver shot a 58.

Individual scoring for LFO was not provided as of press time.

Woodward Academy of College Park turned in a team score of 258 on Saturday and won the Dalton Lady Cat Invitation­al at the Dalton Golf and Country Club.

Calhoun was second with a 260, followed by Dalton (263), Union County (265) and Bremen (271).

Gordon Lee (276) was sixth overall, while Heritage (293) was seventh. The rest of the field included Sequoyah (317), Gordon Central (321), Northwest Whitfield (332), Pickens (333), East Paulding (334) and Coahulla Creek (345).

Macall Miller shot an 82 to pace the Lady Trojans. Jessica Hickman came home in 94, while Hannah Willerson’s 100 rounded out the team total. Emma Cate Dendy also played and carded a 118.

Dalton’s Katelyn Skiffin was the day’s low medalist with a 78, followed by Calhoun’s Katie Mashburn with a 79.

Miranda Rich, the lone player from Ringgold to compete, tied for third with an 81.
