Middle School Track: CVMS teams enjoy solid opening meet

The Chattanoog­a Valley Middle School girls’ track team collected 57 points and took second place - only seven points out of first - in a three-team meet at Ridgeland High School this past Thursday.

Cordasia Watkins won both the 100 and the 200 and took second in the shot put. Maggie Dickson ran a 6:33 to take first in the 1600, while Cate Voyles was first in the 800 and fourth in the 1600.

Madison Lennon clocked in at 6:47 to take second in the 1600, while also placing second in the 400. Macie Smith was second in the 100 hurdles and fourth in the 400. Macie Boren was second in the discus

and third in the shot put, while Asia Silmon earned second in the 200 and third in the 100.

Jenna Morgan was second in the 100, fourth in the 200 and fourth in the long jump. Annabel Hill placed third in high jump. Caroline Hodges was fourth in the discus and Maddie York took fourth in both the shot put and

high jump.

Boren, Morgan, Watkins and Silmon won the 4x100 relay, while Smith, Dickson and Lennon were part of the winning 4x400 relay team.

The Lady Eagles’ sixth and seventh graders scored 52 of the team’s 57 points in the team’s first meet of the 2017 season.

In the boys’ meet, Gordon Lee won with 86 points, followed by Chattanoog­a Valley (31) and Rossville (9).

Jeremiah Turner, Cash Montgomery and Nate Montgomery went 1-2-3 in the discus. Turner also won the shot put, while Cash Montgomery placed third and Nate Montgomery was fifth.

The Eagles’ 4x100 relay team of Jeremiah Turner, Michael Shannon, Jakobe Turner and Dillon Shropshire finished as runners-up, while Shropshire, Jeremiah Turner, Ritt Tankersley and Nate Montgomery

teamed to get second in the 4x400.

Jesse Dunwoody took third in the 100 hurdles with Andrew Chapman placing fourth. Shropshire was third in the 100 and fourth in the 400, while Shannon and Jakobe Turner tied for fourth in the 100. Meade Vandergrif­f also took fourth in the 1600.

Individual results for Gordon Lee and Rossville were not provided as of press time.
