Golf: Rookie leads Lady Ramblers at Field’s Ferry
Freshman Hannah Bowman earned low medalist honors with a 50 last Thursday and the LaFayette Lady Ramblers went on to victory at Field’s Ferry in Calhoun.
LaFayette ended the day with a 101, followed by Adairsville at 11 and Gordon Central at 116.
Catie Martin, Maci Johnson and McKinley Langford each shot a 51 for the Lady Ramblers, whose team score was comprised of the three lowest scores. Rebecca Benson shot a 53, while Shelby Whittle finished with a 60.
In the boys’ match, the Ramblers dominated with a 146 and a 20-stroke win. Sonoraville (166) finished second, followed by Gordon Central (176), the LaFayette junior varsity squad (179) and Adairsville (194).
Gage Smith paced the Ramblers’ varsity with a 34, followed by Cole Ingram at 35, Carter Grant at 38 and Riley Grant at 39. Tyler Jackson (42) and Zack Whittle (44) also played for LaFayette.
Matthew Ingram shot a 38 for the JV team, followed by Mason Cain (42), Jon Durham (49), Kyle Moore (50) and Josh Bettis (54).
LaFayette tops Ridgeland
Martin and Johnson each carded a 46 last Tuesday as the Lady Ramblers beat Ridgeland in a match at the LaFayette Golf Course, 143-174.
Langford shot a 51 to round out the scoring for the Orange-andBlack.
Christa Parrish had a 53 for the Lady Panthers, followed by Kylie Mason with a 59 and Lauren Cain with a 62.
In the boys’ match, Jackson and Carter Grant each shot a 36 for the Ramblers, followed by a 37 from Smith and a 39 by Riley Grant.
Tristin Burks paced Ridgeland with a 56, followed by Justin Carver with a 59 and Xavier Meyer with a 62.
Gordon Lee boys split matches
Led by a 36 from Tucker Windham, the Trojans scored a comfortable victory over Ringgold in a nine-hole match last Tuesday at Windstone Golf Course.
Justin Hickman carded a 38 for the Trojans, while a 40 from Gray Weldon and a 45 from Jacob Carlock rounded out the team total of 159.
The Tigers (186) were paced by Gavin Noble’s 38. Joseph Taylor shot a 46, while Harrison Haupt and Jerin Morgan both finished with a 51.
Results of the girls’ match were not available as of press time.
Gordon Lee got a 38 from Weldon and a 39 from Hickman, but the Trojans dropped a nine-hole match to Darlington at Battlefield Golf Club in Ringgold last Thursday.
Windham had a 43 and Cole Walker carded a 48 as the Trojans shot a team total of 168. Carlock (50) and Christian Boyd (54) also played for Gordon Lee.
Darlington finished at 162, thanks to a 39 from Peter Hinnant, a 40 from Scott Spyra, a 41 from Carter Anderson and a 42 from Hank Crawford. Alec Patterson (43) and Grayson Moss (53) also played for the Tigers.
