Lady Trojans first, Trojans second at Southeast

The Gordon Lee Lady Trojans collected 160 points to win a six team meet at Southeast Whitfield on Tuesday.

Addison Whitman took first place in the pole vault, clearing 9-feet, while Madison Mayberry (7-6) and Gracie O’Neal (7-0) made it a 1-2-3 sweep for the Navy-and-White. Whitman also raced to a win in the 400 meters (1:05.35).

Taylor Hunley won the 300 hurdles in 53.50, while O’Neal and Riley Cash took the top two places in the 800. O’Neal finished in 2:39, while Cash’s 2:40 was a new personal best. O’Neal also won the 1600 (6:02), Cash, O’Neal, Whitman and Gracey Kruse also won the 4x400 relay in a time of 4:32.

Katelyn Gilliam placed second in the 3200 (14:37), while Baleigh Smith took runner-up honors in the shot put (30-0).

Cass was second in the team standings with 124 points, followed by Ringgold (110), Southeast Whitfield (110), Murray County (80) and Gordon Central (14).

In the boys’ meet, the Trojans amassed 146 points to earn second place behind Cass (169.5).

Southeast Whitfield (128) was third, while Murray County (96), Ringgold (72.5) and Gordon Central (9) rounded out the field.

Makinnon Young won the 200 in a time of 23.47, while Jasper Wilson (2:10) and Jake Leiviska (2:14) finished 1-2 in the 800. Nathaniel Wright cleared 6-2 to win the high jump, while Drew Cobb - competing in the triple jump for the very first time -- won the event at 40-8. Cobb also took second in the long jump (19-11) and third in the pole vault (10-6).

Young also placed second in the 100 (11.20) and third in the long jump (18-10 3/4).

Donnie Dees placed second in the triple jump (35-3/4), while the 4x100 and 4x400 relay team each took second, clocking in at 45.31 and 3:47, respective­ly.

Logan Hill was third in the shot put (39-4 1/4) and Bailey Burns was third in the 3200 (11:10).
