Middle School Baseball: LaFayette edges Lakeview in eight-inning pitchers’ duel

Seven wasn’t enough for the LaFayette Ramblers last Thursday night, but eight was.

The Orange-andBlack finally pushed home a run in the top of the eighth inning at Lakeview and made it hold up as they beat the Warriors, 1-0, in an NGAC game at Lakeview.

Pitching ruled the day for both clubs. Davis Richardson started the game for the Ramblers. He threw five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and fanning five. Cade Fisher took over in the sixth and threw three shutout innings. He finished with three strikeouts, no walks and four hits allowed as he picked up the win in relief.

Josh McAFee did yeoman’s work for the Warriors (3-3). He pitched all eight innings, scattering eight hits and one walk and finishing with seven strikeouts, but was saddled with the hardluck loss.

Blake Mann was 2-for-4 for LaFayette (32) and scored the gamewinnin­g run. Skylar Cepeda was 2-for-4 and delivered the gamewinnin­g RBI.

Gordon Lee 15, Saddle Ridge 0

The Trojans got a combined no-hitter from Cade Peterson and Dylan Burnett as they beat Saddle Ridge last Thursday.

Brody Cobb had a double, two singles and a walk in four trips to the plate. Jake Poindexter was 3-for-4 with a double and two singles, while Peterson, Burnett, Cody Thomas, Austin Daniel and Tanner Wilson had one hit apiece as Gordon Lee (7-1 overall, 7-0 NGAC) finished with 11 hits on the day.

The Mustangs fell to 0-6 overall and 0-6 in league play with the loss.

Gordon Lee 10, Lakeview 0

Poindexter wasn’t just unhittable last Tuesday afternoon, he was practicall­y perfect.

Gordon Lee’s ace threw a seven-inning no-hitter, complete with no walks and an even 10 strikeouts, as the Trojans collected a win at Lakeview.

The only batter to reach base for the Warriors did so on a Gordon Lee error.

Poindexter was also 2-for-3 with the bat. He got offensive support from Henry Ellis (2-for4) and Cobb (2-for-5, double).

Ringgold 10, Saddle Ridge 0

The Tigers put up four runs in both the first and sixth innings and won a six-inning contest over the Mustangs last Tuesday at Seabolt Field.

Ringgold pounded out 14 hits on the day. Hayden Black had two hits and a pair of RBIs. Kenyon Ransom and McCain Mangum each had two hits and one RBI, while Taylor Pease and Eli Norris also had two hits apiece.

Other contributo­rs for the Tigers included Colin Mountjoy and Brodie Spurgeon with one hit and one RBI each, Mason Parker and Chase Ghormley with one hit apiece and Sam Mills and Austin McMahan, who each picked up one RBI.

Parker threw the first five innings and struck out five, while Norris fanned two in one inning of relief.

Ethan Kruger and Garrison Fults were listed as having hits for the Mustangs, while pitcher Chris Bell took the loss.

Ringgold 13, Chatt. Valley 2

The Tigers spotted the Eagles a run in the top of the first inning, but went on to control the rest of the afternoon as they won an NGAC contest at Frank Seabolt Field this past Thursday.

Black had two hits and scored three runs for Ringgold (103 overall, 6-1 NGAC). Mountjoy also had two hits and drove in a pair of runs, while Noah Carpenter came through with a two-run double.

Ransom, Norris, McMahan, Parker, Sam Mills and Andrew McCarver had one each for the Tigers, while Mills, Norris, Mangum and Spurgeon had one RBI apiece.

Black was the recipient of the run support as he got the win on the hill. He threw four innings of two-hit ball, striking out two and walking one. Ghormley fanned one and gave up one hit in his one inning of relief.

Individual details for the Eagles (1-4, 1-4) were not provided as of press time.

Rossville 9, Chatt. Valley 4

Aiden Raymer pitched five inning, striking out seven, while adding a bases-loaded triple in Rossville’s home win over Chattanoog­a Valley last Tuesday.

Raymer finished 2-for-4 on the day and knocked in three runs for the Bulldogs. Andrew Rider had a hit, an RBI and a stolen base. Hudson Couch went 1-for-2 with a stolen base, while Houston “Butch” Henry finished the day 1-for-3.

Individual details for the Eagles were not provided as of press time.

Heritage 9, Rossville 4

The Generals led 5-4 after three innings this past Thursday, but scored three times in the bottom of the fourth to take control and eventually claim a victory over the Bulldogs.

Nick Hanson had two hits, including a double, and two runs scored for Heritage (3-1), while C.J. Robertson, Alex Mixon, Hayden James, Garrett Pennington, Preston Etter and Dylan Bryan each had one hit. Etter and Bryan each knocked in a pair of runs.

Cade Kiniry got the win on the bump. He allowed three earned runs on one hit, walking four and striking out six. Zack Harrison suffered the loss for the Bulldogs (2-5), allowing nine earned runs on seven hits with four walks and two strikeouts.

Harrison was 2-for4 at the plate. Jacob Ross had a hit and two RBIs, while Raymer and Couch drove in one run apiece. Isaac Pitts and Nathan Ruppel also had hits for Rossville, who left nine on base and gave up four runs on passed balls.

The Oakwood Middle School softball team scored six runs in the top of the first inning last Tuesday, but couldn’t hold the lead as they fell at CSAS in Chattanoog­a.

Lily Green scored three times for the Lady Eagles. Raleigh Suits scored twice, while McKenley Baggett, Caroline Tindell, Chloe Taylor, Avery Green and Callie Ray all crossed the plate once.
