Middle School Track: CVMS girls claim fourteam meet at Rigdeland

The Chattanoog­a Valley Lady Eagles and the Heritage Lady Generals battled toothand-nail at Ridgeland High School on Friday night, but when the dust had settled, it was the Maroon-and-White standing tallest.

CVMS scored 81 points to win a fourteam meet on the final day before Spring Break in Walker and Catoosa Counties. Heritage placed second with 69 points, while Saddle Ridge (19) and Lakeview (7) rounded out the team standings.

The Lady Eagles won five events as compared to four for Heritage. Cordasia Watkins and Asia Silmon tied for first in the 100 (15.12 seconds), while Watkins also picked up first place in the 200 (29.38). Jennalynn Morgan won a tiebreaker to take first in the high jump (4-4). Macie Boren reached 67-4 to win the discus and the 4x100 “A” team broke the line first with a time of 57.06.

Heritage’s wins came from Kaylan Davis in the 400 (1:06.78) and the 800 (2:46.66). Gracie Murray won the 100 hurdles (18.56) and the 4x400 “A” team also scored a win (4:50.99).

The other two victories were claimed by the Lady Mustangs. Madi Ashley won the shot put (27-4 1/2) and Haynie Gilstrap raced to a win in the 1600 (6:14.41).

In the boys’ meet, Heritage won eight of 11 events and dominated the meet with 105 points. Chattanoog­a Valley (38) was a distant second, while Lakeview (20) and Saddle Ridge (17) finished third and fourth, respective­ly.

Joel Lewis won both the 800 (2:34.92) and the 1600 (5:32.27) for the Generals, while other wins were turned in by Eli Owens in the high jump (5-4), Jonathan Washburn in the shot put (34-7 1/2), Noah Lovell in the 100 hurdles (19.22),

Cole Waddle in the 400 (1:02.70), the 4x100 “A” team (52.9) and the 4x400 “A” team (4:26.50).

Jeremiah Turner won the discus (117-5) and the 200 (25.82) for the Eagles, while Dylan Shropshire claimed first in the 100 (13.81).

Due to a problem with the landing pit, the long jump event was not held.

GLMS boys win at home

Fresh off their recent win at the eight-team LaFayette Invitation­al, the Trojans claimed a smaller win last Tuesday, beating fellow Walker County rivals LaFayette and Saddle Ridge in meet in Chickamaug­a.

The Trojans picked up 72 points to earn a comfortabl­e victory over the Ramblers (42.5),

while the Mustangs (5.5) took third.

Gordon Lee won nine events, including two each by Griffin Collins and Jake Lee. Collins won the 100 (12.03) and the 200 (26.90), while Lee took first in the 800 (2:18) and the 1600 (5:24). His time in the 800 broke the Gordon Lee Middle School record by two seconds.

Kameron Oliver won the 400 (1:02.31). Brady Jacobs jumped 18-4 1/2 to win the long jump and Logan Butler reached 35-4 in the shot put. The 4x100 “A” relay team won in a time of 50.25, while the 4x400 “A” relay team clocked in at 4:23.

The other three wins were turned in by LaFayette. Eli Prince won the discus (94-8), Jalyon Ramsey won the high jump (5-2) and Harrison Watkins took the 100 hurdles (17.33).

The girls’ meet had a much closer finish, but the home team was

still able to pull out the win. The Lady Trojans collected 53 points, followed by LaFayette (42) and Saddle Ridge (30).

Addison Sturdivant picked up wins in both the 100 hurdles (17.53) and the 400 (1:07.30), while Gordon Lee also got first-place points from Arilyn Lee in the discus (92-4), Emma Phillips in the long jump (14-1/2), Kaylee Brown in the high jump (4-8), Ansley Dendy in the 800 (3:13) and the 4x400 “A” team (5:00).

The only win for the Lady Ramblers came in the 4x100 as the “A” team won in a time of 59.30.

Saddle Ridge won four events, two by Auriyan McClure, who swept the 100 (14.15) and the 200 (30.13). Ashley won the shot put (27-1 1/4), Haynie Gilstrap followed up her LaFayette Invitation­al win by winning the 1600 in a time of 6:30.
