Golf: LaFayette boys third, Gordon Lee fourth at Field’s Ferry

- By Scott Herpst

Most days, a 303 would be good enough to challenge for a high school tournament victory - if not win it outright.

But the 303 carded by the LaFayette Ramblers last Monday wasn’t enough and it wasn’t enough by a substantial margin.

The Dalton Catamounts set a tournament-record with a 284 and Darlington was second with a 292, forcing the Ramblers to settle for third place at the 2017 Calhoun Jacket Invitational at Field’s Ferry.

Gordon Lee (309) was six shots back of LaFayette and took fourth, while Christian Heritage and Sonoraville (333) tied for fifth in the 10team event. Northwest Whitfield (340) was seventh, followed Calhoun “A” (342), Calhoun “B” (365) and Gordon Central (370).

Carter Grant was low man for the Ramblers with a 72, followed by Cole Ingram with a 74 and Gage Smith with a 75. Tyler Jackson’s 82 rounded out the team score, while Riley Grant played and shot an 83. Only the lowest four individual scores count toward the team total.

Gray Weldon shot a solid 73 for the Trojans, while Justin Hickman had a 74. Tucker Windham added a 76, followed by Jacob Carlock’s 86 and Cole Walker’s 93.

LaFayette handles Trion

In the boys’ match, LaFayette got 39’s from Jackson and Jon Durham in a 160-182 win. Jon Morgan and Mason Cain each shot a 41 to complete the

Ramblers’ team total.
