GL third, LaFayette fifth at Heritage girls’ tourney

A team score of 299 wasn’t good enough for the host team to win the Heritage Lady General Invitation­al at the Nob North Golf Course last Tuesday.

The Dalton Lady Catamounts, led by low medalist Katelynn Skiffen’s 77, won the tournament with a 246. Calhoun (257) finished as tournament runnerup as they got an 80 from Kate Mashburn. Gordon Lee (271) was third, followed by Heritage.

LaFayette (305) was fifth, while Northwest Whitfield (312), Cartersvil­le (327), Gordon Central (343) and Gilmer (345) rounded out the team scores.

Macall Miller shot an 85 for the Lady Trojans to make the All-Tournament Team. Jessica Hickman shot a 92, followed by Hannah Willerson’s 94. Emma Cate Dendy had a 98, Alexandria Maynor shot a 101, while Emmalee Hughes had a 114.

McKinley Langford led the Lady Ramblers with a 97, followed by Maci Johnson (105), Catie Martin (107) and Hannah Bowman (109).

Gordon Lee claims Five-Star Invitation­al

Justin Hickman carded a 73 and Tucker Windham added a 76 to help lead the Trojans to a three-shot victory in the Heritage boys’ Five-Star Invitation­al at Nob North this past Thursday.

An 80 by Jacob Carlock and an 81 by

Gray Weldon rounded out the Trojans’ winning score of 310. Tucker Graham (85), Cole Walker (90), Christian Boyd (91) and Gunnar Williams (109) also played for Gordon Lee.

Gordon Lee edged out Northwest Whitfield (313) for the title, while the LaFayette junior varsity squad shot a 325 to place third. Christian Heritage (329) was fourth, followed by Southeast Whitfield (332), Cartersvil­le (350) and Heritage (356).

Tyler Jackson had a 74 for the Ramblers. Jon Morgan carded an 80, while Mason Cain’s 83 and Jon Durham’s 88 filled out LaFayette’s

team total. Also playing for the Ramblers were Zack Whittle (90), Kyle Moore (104) and Josh Bettis (105).

Logan Self had a 79 for the Generals, followed by Patrick Redman (89), Matthew Redman (90) and Trevor Badacour (98). Sam Williams (113) and Luke Bussey (119) also teed it up for the host school.

Southeast’s Matthew Cleary took low medalist honors. Cleary shot a 73 and beat Hickman in a scorecard playoff.

Ramblers handle Wolverines

The LaFayette High golf team (156) got a 34 from Jon Morgan and a 37 from Tyler Jackson in a 22-stroke victory over Dade County (178) at the Trenton Golf Club last

Monday.

Zack Whittle had a 42, while Kyle Moore and Jon Durham each shot a 43. Mason Cain carded a 50 and Josh Bettis shot a 53.

Only the four lowest scores count toward the team score.

Ethan Everett led the Wolverines with a 39.

Boys’ teams in Region 6-AAAA were slated to play their Area Tournament at the Higland Country Club in LaGrange on Monday. However, due to newspaper deadlines, results could not be included in this week’s edition of the Walker County Messenger.
