An article titled “Commissioner describes first 115 day” on page A1 of the May 3 edition contained an error.

In the article, it was mentioned that Walker County payroll for the first week of Commissioner Shannon Whitfield’s administration was going to be $1 million for 435 employees with around $500,000 in payroll and $1 million in the general fund.

Payroll for the first paid period was around $500,000, Whitfield said on Thursday, May 4. The county pays its employees every two weeks, meaning the total payroll would be $1 million for the entire month of January and not $1 million for the first week.

The county says it needs $8 million to be able to continue operations for the first year of Whitfield’s administration. The loan from The Bank of LaFayette was for an initial $4 million and the county will have to borrow an additional $4 million in the near future for a total of $8 million for 2017.

Thus far, the Bank of LaFayette has only loaned the county $4 million year to date and Whitfield said the county will have to work to source the second $4 million.
