- By Scott Herpst

The Oakwood Christian Academy baseball team saw its season to a close in the finals of the Southern Christian Athletic Association tournament this past Saturday.

After beating Apostolic Christian of Knoxville in the semifinals, the Eagles saw Knoxville Christian School rally in the bottom of the fifth to score the win and the title.

A 10-run first inning was plenty of offense for the Eagles, who tacked on six more in the third before seeing the game end on the run-rule in the fourth.

J.J. Lanham and John Jacob McSpadden had two hits each, while Nate Stern and Phillip Davis each had two RBIs.

Single RBIs were recorded by Lanham, Clay Jones, Austin Greco, Matthew McDonough, Preston Allen, Cory Taylor, Trevor Hobbs and Noah Thornton.

Lanham also got the win on the hill, giving up three earned runs on four hits and nine walks in four innings pitched. He finished with seven strikeouts.

The Eagles battled back from deficits twice to take the lead, but couldn’t overcome the bottom of the fifth as the game ended after six innings.

KCS scored twice in the bottom of the first, only to see OCA score twice in the second to tie the game. The Eagles then countered the Royal Knights’ threerun fourth inning with a four-spot of their own in the top of the fifth.

However, the Eagles gave up five unearned runs in the home half of the inning and never recovered as they were forced to settle for the league runner-up trophy.

Lanham went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Davis was 1-for4 with a run and two RBIs, while Greco and Taylor each drove in a run.

D.J. Terry started the game and went four innings. McSpadden was saddled with the loss in relief.
