COMMUNITY · The Cedar Grove Community Club meets every third Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Cedar Grove Community Center on W. Cove Road. Everyone is invited.

VETERANS · A free barbeque for veterans and there families will be held on Armed Forces Day, May 20, on Veterans Drive (off Homer Cagle Road) in LaFayette. Veterans are welcome to bring their family for a day of food, fun, live music and fellowship. Everything is free — as long as it lasts. COMMUNITY · Summervill­e Main Street events are held at the historic railroad depot, The event May 20 is Gospel Fest and will take place 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at 111 East Washington St. in downtown Summervill­e.

ENTERTAINM­ENT · Lyerly United Methodist is down to their last 20 cookbooks. When

these are gone, they are gone as there will not be a second printing. CHURCH ·Due to adverse weather conditions the first weekend of May, First Baptist Church, 2645 LaFayette Road, Fort Oglethorpe, will hold its annual Rummage Sale from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday, May 26, and from 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 27. Sale items will include furniture, household items, appliances, linens, electronic­s, yard tools, handbags, clothing and shoes. Baked goods, hot dogs, chips and drinks will be available for purchase. SCHOOLS · Heritage High School’s graduation ceremony will be Saturday, May 27, at 9 a.m. at school’s football stadium.

EDUCATION · The Friends of the GordonLee Mansion will open the mansion and ground for tours on May 27, from noon until 2 p.m. The Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum will operate the Chickamaug­a Turn steam train excursion that day and the Mansion will be available for passengers, plus other interested visitors. Admission to the mansion is $5 adults, $1 for 12 and under, with all proceeds earmarked for preservati­on of this historic ante bellum home.

MEETING ·The May meeting of the Walker

County Historical Society will be the annual Secret Tour in which an old Walker County home, not normally open to the public, will be visited for a special tour hosted by the family now living there. Members will meet on Sunday, May 28, at 2:30 p.m. on the back parking lot of the Marsh House to car pool to the secret site. New members are welcome. Membership is $10.00 per year. REUNION ·The LaFayette High School Class of 1977 invites members of all LHS classes from 1970 -1979 to a tailgate event on June 23. This gathering will take place at the old high school football field/track from 6 p.m. - 11 p.m. and is a time for families to meet and reconnect with their 70s’ classmates.
