Your Best Investment

In real estate, people reference your biggest investment as real estate. I beg to differ! I have been in real estate 31 years and have also bought and sold several properties, but while real estate is great and is probably your biggest financial investment, it isn’t your best investment! The best investment you make will be your investment in people, your community and the lives you touch along your way.

I have witnessed firsthand a community come together to make things brighter and better for the lives of our children. Everyone from the “top” down has supported our county’s first annual bicycle ride. Our city and county leaders, employees, civic organizati­ons, businesses and individual­s all invested money, time and energy to make our “Honeybee Metric Bicycle Ride” a success. This kind of investment benefits so many families in addition to bringing something special to our community of Walker County.

Because so many in our community gave abundantly, we had a successful event showing 145 cyclists and their families our community, our history and our people. Our recreation department­s across our county and LaFayette’s civic organizati­ons hosted and greeted at our rest stops. All were blessed by these new relationsh­ips. There is nothing like meeting and serving food and drinks to cyclists touring our county. Everyone is relaxed, happy and ready to engage!

This 1st annual Honeybee Metric Bicycle Ride not only created a positive bond between our city leaders, businesses and individual­s, it reduced the LaFayette Parks and Recreation fees for all activities for our youth by 25 percent! That is huge for the 1st year.

This is an event we have referenced many times as a “Win-Win”. It showcases the beauty and history of our communitie­s, it brings positive economic impact to our communitie­s, it is healthy and fun and best of all, it allows more youth the financial ability to participat­e in recreation­al activities.

I began this initial campaign to our community and civic organizati­ons with the scripture Luke 6:38 which is my life verse. “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use it, it will be measured to you.”

Everyone I worked with the last few months did this and it showed.

How does this fit into “real estate”? When all the investment­s take place of pride in the community throughout all that was mentioned, the growth and developmen­t flourishes and so does your “biggest financial” investment. Once again it is a “Win-Win” for all!

Now I will end this with the scripture that was put before me and truly showed during this Honeybee Event.

He did immensely more than I or the city imagined! It does make a difference in where you make your investment­s. I look forward to investing more in my community and the people that share it with me! It is a “Win-Win”
