Painting to celebrate mothers
Painting For a Purpose, the monthly adult painting party offered at the 6th Cavalry Museum, will be held on Thursday, May 25, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
To commemorate Spring and Mother’s Day, local artist Durinda Cheek has created “Family Nest” as an original work for this class. Personalize your painting with the eggs to represent your family --- the colors of boys and girls and the number of eggs in the nest. Add “Bless Our Nest” or your family name across the bottom if desired. Or you can paint a lovely bird nest in blues or tans and creams. Your painting will be professionally lettered so there’s no need for calligraphy skills. “I wanted to do a class that would appeal to mothers, daughters and even granddaughters to encourage them to paint together as a special night for them. I hope that ‘Family Nest’ with the added personalization does just that,” said Cheek.
The cost is $40 and includes a catered dinner, canvas, painting supplies and instruction so each guest leaves with a completed 16x20 acrylic work of art. A catered dinner will be served from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring the adult beverage of their choice and an apron or old shirt to protect their clothes.
The 16x20 canvas of will be presketched with Cheek demonstrating painting techniques, how to mix colors and give individualized instruction so each guest finishes their painting that night. Door prizes, music and camaraderie add to the fun.
Proceeds from Painting for a Purpose benefits the 6th Cavalry Museum, the non-profit museum located on the former Army Post in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. The museum is ADA compliant and is equipped with a lift to the 2nd floor community room where the class is held. Pre-registration is required and class size is limited to 20 participants.
