Georgia Highland’s 3-Race Series’s first event is part of LaFayette’s Freedom Fest

-

The 2nd Annual Freedom Fest Run is this Saturday, July 1 at 7 a.m. This year runners can choose from a 10K or 5K runs. Grab your Red, White and Blue and join us for music, refreshment and fun. Awards for age categories will be given and proceeds benefit the LaFayette Rambler Cross County Track and Field programs!

“I want to welcome everyone in LaFayette, Walker County and from around the area to be a part of the Freedom Fest Run and then be a part of the Reindeer Run coming up in December,” Mayor Andy Arnold said.

This year’s Freedom Fest Run is part of the Georgia Highlands Race Series which includes a 5K Run and 1 Mile Fun Reindeer Run on Saturday, December 2. This is the ONLY race series in Northwest Georgia.

LaFayette Track Coach and Freedom Fest Run Coordinator Chris O’Neil says that’s what makes this unique,

“We want to offer runners from around the area a chance to be a part of a series that now includes three races and may include up to five races in the next few years,” he said.

The monies raised from all the races benefits children in LaFayette. The Freedom Fest funds the LaFayette High School Track Team and the Reindeer Run funds the LaFayette Shop with the Cop program which makes Christmas Wishes come true for area children.

“These are great races but they will win the race of life for children in our area and that is why the City and the Downtown Development Authority work so tirelessly to make these events a success,” said Rachel Oesch Willeford, president of the LaFayette Downtown Development Authority.
