Robert “Shorty” Sheridan Freeman, 77, Ringgold

Robert “Shorty” Sheridan Freeman, 77, of Ringgold, Georgia passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017. A lifelong resident of the Ringgold area, he was of the Baptist faith. He was a former employee of the U.S. Postal Service where he worked for 22 years and was a Veteran of the U.S. Marines and the U.S. Army.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Willard Sheridan Freeman Sr. and Minnie Elizabeth Jenkins Freeman; three brothers, Willard Freeman Jr., Richard Freeman, and Rupert Freeman; and two sisters, Ruby Freeman and Evelyn Haire.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Wanda Freeman of Ringgold, GA.; three children, Pam (Gary) Lane of Soddy Daisy, TN., Paula (Danny) Forgey of Chattanoog­a, TN., and Jason Robert Freeman of Ringgold, GA.; sister, Ruth Love of Ringgold, GA.; six grandchild­ren, five great grandchild­ren, several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services: 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Anderson Memorial Gardens in Ringgold, Georgia.

Visitation: Tuesday from 5-8 P.M. and Wednesday from 9 A.M. until 12:30 P.M. at the funeral home.

Steve Samuel Gravitt, 73, Chattanoog­a

Steve Samuel Gravitt, 73, of Chattanoog­a, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2017 in a local hospital. Steve was born in Lookout Mountain, GA on June 23, 1944 to his late parents Willis Haskell and Gladys Lucille Gravitt. He has lived in Chattanoog­a for several years.

He retired from North American Royalties Inc. Wheland Foundry in Chattanoog­a following 37 years of service as Operations Director. Following his retirement he also worked with Cecil Gravitt Constructi­on and later joined his wife in managing her store Encore Consignmen­t Boutique in Riverview. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Chattanoog­a and enjoyed traveling, gardening, woodworkin­g, cooking and hosting elaborate parties with his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brother, Willis H. Gravitt, Jr.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years, Sherry Shipley Gravitt; sons Dennis L. Gravitt of Pensacola, FL, Darryl (Cindy) Gravitt of Lookout Mountain, GA; daughters Gisele (Barry) Everette and Gretchen (Jonathan) Tremmier of Lookout Mountain, GA; stepdaught­ers Neely (Anson) Hyde of Signal Mountain, TN and Hayden Crihfield of Atlanta, GA; brother Cecil (Susan) Gravitt and sisters Louise Wilson, Edith Daniel, Helen Miller, Linda Derryberry and Sarah (Tony) Mitchell, all of Lookout Mountain, GA; three aunts and two uncles; ten grandchild­ren, and twelve greatgrand­children; and former wife, Sara Clark Gravitt.

Funeral services: 10:30 AM on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Chattanoog­a with Reverend Brad Whitaker officiatin­g.

Bobby Pressly Moore, 85, Chickamaug­a

Bobby Pressly Moore, 85 of Chickamaug­a, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, July 24, 2017.

He was born in Statesvill­e, NC to the late William Carl & Beulah Mae Moore, Sr.

He had lived in Statesvill­e, NC for most of his life before moving to the North Georgia area in 1979 and was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church. He was a SGT in the United States Army having served during the Korean Conflict and retired from the Army Reserves after more than 20 years of service. He then went on to work for & retire from Datel Communicat­ions after more than 15 years in Shipping & Receiving. Bobby enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and was completely devoted to his family and friends, no matter what the cost.

He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Margaret Proctor and Dorothy Farmer and brother, William Carl Moore, Jr.

Survivors include his loving wife of more than 59 years, Mary Brown Moore of Chickamaug­a, GA; daughter & sonin-law, Beth & (Pat) Myers of Rock Spring, GA; 2 grandchild­ren, Evan Myers and Katie Delich; great grandson, Charlie Delich and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family & friends.

Funeral services: 3:00 p.m. Thursday, July 27, 2017 in the J. Avery Bryan Chapel with Rev. Terry Burns officiatin­g.

Gladys Elaine MacKinnon Staples Rodman, 91, of Ringgold, Georgia passed away Monday July 24, 2017 at her residence.

A native of Quincy, Massachuse­tts, she has lived in the Ringgold area for the past 38 years and was a member of Brainerd Hills Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph Staples; second husband, Lloyd Rodman; parents, John and Elizabeth MacKinnon; son, Ralph “Rusty” Staples; brother, Robert MacKinnon; and sister, Marcia Middleton.

She is survived by five children, Dan (Debbie) Staples of Dennis, MA, Judy (Marty) Griswold of Chattanoog­a, Mary (Mark) Yates of Chattanoog­a, Cindi (John) Caroland of Ringgold, and Beverly (David) Forester of Ringgold; five step children, Doris (Toney) Hicks of Chattanoog­a, Midge Spencer, Evelyn Matthews, Wilma (Charles) Trainor, and Lyle (Pam) Rodman all of Illinois; brother, Jack (Ann) MacKinnon of Quincy, MA.; twenty grandchild­ren, five great grandchild­ren, numerous step grandchild­ren, nieces and nephews.

Mavis Sims Huskey, 87, Chickamaug­a

Mavis Sims Huskey, age 87, of Chickamaug­a, formerly of Chattanoog­a, passed away Monday, July 24, 2017 in a local healthcare facility.

She was born March 12, 1930 in Moulton, Alabama to the late James E. & Cordella Price Sims.

Mrs. Huskey graduated from Tennessee Temple College in the early 1950’s.

She was a member of Hamilton Baptist Church and attended Alliance Church.

She and her late husband William Clifford Huskey were retired Missionari­es with Baptist Internatio­nal Missions, Inc. (BIMI)

Mrs. Huskey was preceded in death by three brothers, Tommy Sims, J. D. Sims, and Rev. Deen Sims

Survivors include her daughter, Regina (Phillip) Stuart of Chickamaug­a; son, John (Shannon) Huskey of Dunlap; eight grandchild­ren; twelve great-grandchild­ren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Thursday, July 27, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral service will begin in the East Brainerd Chapel at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. Ray Thompson and Rev. Virgil Smith officiatin­g. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.

Charles Allen Gray, 66, Rossville

Charles Allen Gray, 66, of Rossville, Georgia, was called home to be with the Lord on July 24, 2017, surrounded by his family.

He was a graduate of Rossville High School Class of 1968 and was a member of South Seminole Baptist Church and regularly attended New Covenant Baptist Church with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hansard and Wilma Gray, and his grandparen­ts.

He is survived by a son Chuck, three sisters; Debbie (Larry) Grant, Sharon (Mike) Gregg, and Cindy Simmons; special Uncle and Aunt Irvin Boatwright and Mary Evans; many Aunts, Uncles, Nieces and Nephews that he adored.

His sisters are so thankful for his wonderful sense of humor, his love shown to their families and most importantl­y, his walk with Christ.

Carl Lloyd Ellis, 83, Chattanoog­a, Tenn.

Carl Lloyd Ellis, 83, of Chattanoog­a, passed away, Wednesday, July 26, 2017, surrounded by his family.

Carl was born July 18, 1934, on the Ellis family farm, located on Battle Creek in South Pittsburg, Tennessee. Carl was a member of Lookout Valley Baptist Church and loved his Lord and his family. He graduated from South Pittsburg High School and American College of Life Underwrite­rs at LSU where he obtained his Certified Life Underwrite­r credential. Following university training, Carl taught insurance classes at the University of Chattanoog­a. He worked for Lincoln National Insurance Company for 40-plus years. Carl was one of the charter members of the Chattanoog­a Valley Lions Club. He also worked with the Chattanoog­a Kidney Foundation to help provide portable dialysis machines for in-home use. Carl loved attending South Pittsburg Pirates football games and was a strong supporter of Lookout Valley High School football. He was a compassion­ate and giving man who anonymousl­y helped many in need, especially during the Christmas season. He enjoyed great adventures traveling with family and friends. Carl’s home was located on a corner and was often a stopping point for conversati­on and advice.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Ross H. and Edith McNabb Ellis; sister, Peggy Ellis Woody; and brother, John Paul Ellis.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Doris Adkins Ellis; daughter, Cara Ellis; sons, Brian (Eve) Ellis, Jeff (Lisa) Ellis, of Chattanoog­a; son, Michael Ellis, Paris, Kentucky; brother, Doug Ellis; grandchild­ren: Jennifer (Arthur) Roden, Laura (Jordan) Winchester, Brandon Ellis, Jordan (Dana) Ellis, Austin (Tabitha) Ellis, Grace Ellis, and Kassi (Brannon) Cooper, and 6 great-grandchild­ren.

Glenn David Rickett, 74, Ringgold

Glenn David Rickett, 74, of Ringgold, passed away at his home on Thursday, July 27, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was a graduate of Lakeview High School, class of 1961. After high school, he served his country with honor in the United States Marine Corps for six years and he was a true patriot. Glenn was of the Baptist faith. He was always a passionate sports fan from being captain and quarterbac­k of his high school football team to greatly enjoying golf with his friends in recent years. During the 1970’s and 1980’s, he played and coached several slow pitch softball teams in the Chattanoog­a area. He also coached several little league sports teams in earlier years. He took pleasure in the grandchild­ren’s participat­ion in sports.

Before retirement, he was a partner for twenty-five years with Bodie-Rickett & Associates, a wholesale food brokerage company in East
