Ridgeland back to .500 after 3-0 week

The Lady Panthers began Area 6-AAAA with a 1-0 record with a thrilling 25-23, 27-29, 25-15 home victory over Gilmer last Tuesday.

Rachel Atchley dished up 21 assists on the night to go with two kills, four aces and five digs. Abbi Witherow had four aces and 14 digs. Jayda Jenkins collected a team-high 15 kills to go with seven digs. Landree Dunn, Tori Elliot and Sarah Williams had three kills apiece. Williams also had three aces, while Tara Taylor finished with eight digs. with a 26-24, 25-11 win over the Lady Warriors behind 11 assists, two kills and an ace by Atchley. Jenkins finished with seven kills, five digs and two aces. Witherow picked up five digs, while Elliot (5 aces) and Williams (2 kills) were standouts for the Lady Panthers.

The Black-and-White closed it out with a 25-21, 25-20 win over the Lady Jackets from Tennessee. Atchley had 13 assists, three kills and three digs, while Williams collected four kills and three digs. Witherow recorded 13 digs, two kills, two aces and two assists.

Other standouts included Dunn (2 kill, 1 block), Taylor (2 aces, 2 digs), Elliot (2 kills) and Sydney Davis (3 digs, 1 kill).

Ridgeland (9-9) will host Gordon Lee on Thursday before participat­ing in the Volley at the Creek tournament at Coahulla Creek on Saturday,
