Gordon Lee splits Area 4-A openers at home

- By Scott Herpst

After a marathon first set in the opener against North Cobb Christian last Tuesday, the Lady Trojans couldn’t keep the momentum going as they lost the Area 4-A match in three sets Tuesday in Chickamauga.

Gordon Lee outlasted the Lady Eagles, 32-30, in a thrilling opening set, but the Lady Trojans’ primary setter was shaken up early in the second set and did not return to the court. The personnel loss proved to be too much to overcome as NCCS came back to win the last two sets, 25-15 and 25-17.

The Navy-andWhite had a somewhat easier time with Morris Innovative of Dalton in the night’s final match, winning 25-2 and 25-2.

Aubree Yancey had 11 kills and seven aces on the evening, while Delaney Bridges had 10 kills. Gracie O’Neal finished with eight kills and 10 digs in a losing effort.

Gordon Lee swept at Heritage

The Lady Trojans traveled to short distance from Chickamauga to neighboring Boynton on Thursday and dropped best-of-three matches to GPS and host Heritage by almost identical scores.

GPS of Chattanooga defeated Gordon Lee, 25-16, 25-22 and 15-8, while Heritage beat the Lady Trojans, 25-16, 21- 25, 15-9.

O’Neal had 12 kills, 19 digs and two blocks on the night. Summer Fitzpatrick had eight kills and three aces, while Mallory Collier collected 25 total assists.

Gordon Lee (13-8), ranked No. 8 in Class A, will play Tuesday at Darlington before matches at Ridgeland on Thursday. On Saturday, the Lady Trojans will head to Varnell for a tournament at Coahulla Creek.
