Lady Tigers stay perfect in subregion play

- By Scott Herpst

The Ringgold Lady Tigers couldn’t hold on to a three-run in the eighth as they dropped an 11-10 contest to rival Heritage last Monday night at Lee University.

Heritage scored three in the bottom of the eighth, then countered Ringgold’s run in the top of the ninth with two in the home half to win the game.

Riley Nayadley had a three-run homer for the Lady Tigers, while Gracie Morrison was 2-for-6 with a triple and two RBIs. Carolyn Hemphill started in the circle and went four innings, allowing three runs. Kaylee Phillips finished the game and took the loss. She finished with one strikeout.

It was only fitting that Big Head Todd and the Monsters was blasting from the public address speaker between innings at Hazel Brown Field last Tuesday during Ringgold’s game with Murray County because the Lady Tigers were going “boom boom boom boom” on the Lady Indians.

The Blue-and-White put up four runs in the first, second and fourth innings to quickly record a run rule victory. The win boosted Ringgold’s record to 5-7 overall and 2-1 in 6-AAA North.

Ringgold smacked three doubles in the first inning, one each from Morrison, Bailey Farrow and Shelby Cole, while taking advantage of two Murray County errors. Then in the second, six straight hitters reached base with one out as the Lady Tigers extended their lead to 8-0.

Nayadley and Jade Gainer belted backto-back doubles in the fourth to add to the lead. Gillian Little followed with an RBIsingle. Hemphill added a single and Cole walked to load the bases for Brooklyn Keith, who delivered an RBI-single.

Two batters later, Morrison lifted a fly ball to left, scoring Hemphill on the sacrifice to end the game.

Little finished 3-for3 with a pair of RBIs, while Morrison was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Keith and Nayadley each had two hits. Kaylee Womack had a double and an RBI, while three other Lady Tigers plated one run apiece.

Phillips allowed just three hits and fanned three to get the win in the circle.

Ringgold’s game at Coahulla Creek, slated for Thursday, was rained out. The Lady Tigers are slated to play this Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at North Murray.
