Heritage staves off Ringgold in Catoosa County showdown
The Ringgold Lady Tigers thrilled the crowd at David Moss Gymnasium last Tuesday with some incredible defensive plays and world-class digs.
However, the Blueand-White just couldn’t find enough offense to go with their defense and cross-town rival Heritage was able to make the short drive back to Boynton with a 25-17, 25-22 victory in the non-area match.
The Lady Generals led 7-1 and 19-11 in the opening set before the Lady Tigers used a 5-1 run to get back into it and cut the Heritage lead to four. But the Navy-and-Red refused to let the home team take the momentum as they used a 5-1 run of their own to close out the opening set.
In the second and what would become the final set, Ringgold used their defense to erase a pair of fourpoint deficits and tie the match at 15. The score would be knotted again at 17 and again at 20 before kills by Macie Stephens and Macy Harris put Heritage back in front by two.
K.K. Miller would win a joust at the net to add to the lead, but more outstanding defense by the Lady Tigers forced a Ringgold error after a long rally. However, Ringgold couldn’t keep it going as a hitting error of their own gave the point right back and gave Heritage match point at 24-21.
The Lady Tigers got a brief stay as a Heritage shot fell out of bounds, but one final cross-court kill by Kali Brown would hammer home the final nail as the Lady Generals took the win.
Brown had 11 digs, seven kills and an ace in the win. Harris collected six digs, four kills and an ace, while Ashley Clinton served up 16 assists to go with four digs.
It was the second win of the night for the Lady Generals, who easily took out Adairsville, 25-8 and 25-9, in the night’s second match. Harris had seven kills, while Stephens finished with six. Clinton chipped in with 14 assists and four aces. Madelyn Thompson added four aces and four digs, while Nicole Fine served up three aces.
Ricki Lynn Bickley had four kills, two aces and nine digs for Ringgold against Heritage. Chloe Hall finished with 21 digs to go with two kills and a pair of aces. Zoie Metcalf had two kills, six assists, eight digs and an ace, while Lauren Terrell finished the match with eight digs.
Also contributing for the Lady Tigers was Jasley Brooks (4 digs, 1 ace), Bethany Thomason (1 kill, 1 dig) and Emily Ridley (5 digs).
Ringgold also breezed past the other Lady Tigers, 25-8 and 256, in the night’s opening contest.
Hall had a solid match against Adairsville with four kills, six aces and seven digs. Metcalf racked up 13 assists, two aces and two digs. Bickley finished with 11 digs to go with four kills and an ace, while Terrell had five aces and four digs.
Brooks (1 kill, 1 ace), Thomason (4 kills, 2 digs), Ridley (1 dig) and Jewel Parham (5 digs) also contributed to the win.
Heritage sweeps in Chatsworth
The Lady Generals barely broke a sweat this past Thursday as they breezed past Model and Murray County during a tri-match,
Heritage (18-5) beat Model, 25-6 and 25-12, as Brown had seven kills and seven digs. Annie Britton chipped in with 10 digs.
In their other match, the Navy-andRed thumped the Lady Indians, 25-12 and 2511, as Brown had eight kills, seven digs and two aces. Clinton finished with 17 assists.
Ringgold splits in Summerville
The Tigers went 1-1 in a pair of matches at Chattooga High School on Thursday, beating LFO, but losing to the Lady Indians in three sets.
Ringgold beat LFO, 25-10 and 25-18, in a non-area match. Bickley had a team-high six kills to go with 11 digs. Hall picked up five kills, four digs and two aces, while Thomason had four kills, four digs and an ace.
Metcalf recorded 15 assists to go with four digs, two kills and two aces. Terrell had 13 digs and an assist. Ridley chipped in with five digs, Brooks added a kill and Parham had two digs and an ace.
The Lady Tigers (139) came up short against Chattooga, 25-23, 18-25 and 15-7. Hall had five kills, two aces and 15 digs. Metcalf added five kills, five digs, four aces and 11 assists, while Thomason collected four kills, six digs and
an ace. Also contributing for
Ringgold was Brooks (11 digs, 2 aces, 1 kill), Terrell (5 digs, 2 assists), Ridley (8 digs) and Parham (2 kills, 1 dig). The Lady Tigers were without Bickley for the
match for precautionary reasons after getting shaken up in warm-ups.
All matches for Monday and Tuesday were canceleld due to school closings.
