Lady Trojans enjoy 7-0 week, tournament title

The Gordon Lee Lady Trojans, ranked eighth in the latest Class A state poll, faced off with longtime rival Darlington in Rome last Tuesday night in a bestof-three area match.

And when the dust had finally settled, it was the Navy-andWhite securing a hardfought 25-23, 25-23, 25-20 victory.

Gracie O’Neal had 12 digs and four kills for Gordon Lee (2-1 in area play). Summer Fitzpatric­k collected six kill, six digs and four aces, while Aubree Yancey paced the offense with 14 kills.

Gordon Lee defeats Ridgeland

The Lady Trojans continued their season this past Thursday by sweeping the Lady Panthers, 25-18 and 2514, in Rossville.

O’Neal had a solid all-around game with seven digs, five kills and two aces for the Lady Trojans. Yancey added seven kills and three blocks, while Mallory Collier recorded 14 assists.

Sarah Williams had three kills and four digs for Ridgeland, while seniors Rachel Atchley and Abbi Witherow had 10 digs each.

Gordon Lee wins Coahulla Creek tournament

The Lady Trojans, already with a Gold Division title at the dispatchin­g Dalton (2515, 25-17), Ridgeland (25-13, 25-21) and Sonoravill­e (25-19, 2512).

In the semifinals, the Lady Trojans got a tough battle from Ringgold before finally coming from behind to win in three sets.

Gordon Lee easily won the opening set, 2514, but Ringgold fought back to even things up with a 25-23 win in the second set. In the third set tiebreaker, the Lady Tigers led 10-3 in the race to 15, but Fitzpatric­k went to the line to serve for Gordon Lee and reeled off a dozen straight points, four coming on aces, to clinch the win.

The Lady Trojans (20-8) drew Fannin County in the finals. The Lady Rebels came in as the top-ranked team in Class AAA, but they proved to be no match for Gordon Lee, who coasted to a 25-18, 25-12 victory to win the championsh­ip.

Yancey had 28 kills and 13 blocks on the day, followed by Fitzpatric­k and Delaney Bridges with 27 kills each. O’Neal collected 26 kills to go with 35 digs and Collier had 77 total assists.

Ridgeland went on to win the Silver Division title at Coahulla Creek. The Lady Panthers were also the Silver Division winners at the LFO Invitation­al.

Scores and details from Saturday were not provided as of press time.
