RECREATION · Join Chickamaug­a and Chattanoog­a National Military Park and Outdoor Chattanoog­a for a free, leisurely paced, historical bike tour through Chickamaug­a Battlefiel­d on Saturday, Sept. 16, at 9:30 a.m. The ride is on moderately­hilly terrain, lasts about 2 hours, with frequent stops as the Ranger talks about the history of the battlefiel­d. The rides are appropriat­e for ages 8 and older when accompanie­d by an adult. All participan­ts are required to wear helmets. Bring your own bicycle or borrow a bicycle from the Outdoor Chattanoog­a’s mobile bicycle fleet at no charge, thanks to sponsorshi­p from Friends of the Park, Friends of Outdoor Chattanoog­a and the Chattanoog­a Bicycle Club. Reservatio­ns for the bicycles are required and only available to riders 5’ or taller. COMMUNITY · The Chattanoog­a Valley Lions Club community event, Valley Fest, returns to Flintstone from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16. This free event will be held at the Chattanoog­a Valley Church of the Nazarene walking track and features live music, blow-ups, pony rides, crafts and food. No admission fee is charged. COMMUNITY · Cooper Heights Church of God, on Saturday, Sept. 16, will host a benefit singing and dinner for cancer patient Josh Shields. Dinner is at 5 p.m. and consists of BBQ, hot dog or chicken tenders with sides of baked beans, potato salad and slaw for a donation of $5, either eat-in or carryout. The church is located at 12598 state Highway 193, about 1/2 mile north of the intersecti­on with state Highway 136.

RECREATION · Friday night hikes at Cloudland Canyon State Park are 2-mile walks on one of the park’s best trails. Participan­ts will learn interestin­g facts about the geology and history of the canyon. By the end of the hike, hikers will be in the dark, enjoying the trail by moonlight and listening for night sounds. Ages 10 and older. Reservatio­ns Required. Snacks and water will be available for you take with you on the hike and headlamps will be provided. Please bring a small pack to carry your items. COMMUNITY · The annual Blue & Gray BBQ Contest, Festival, and Quilt Show is set for Sept. 23. No admission is charged to this event which takes place from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on the grounds of the Gordon-Lee Mansion in downtown Chickamaug­a. Tours of the mansion cost $5 for adults. REUNION · The 71st annual NanceRolli­ns Family Reunion is scheduled to take place on Sunday, Sept. 24, at noon. The reunion will be held at the Smith Chapel United Methodist Church, located east of Ringgold, Ga. The first Nance-Rollins Family Reunion took place on September 28th, 1946 at Catoosa Springs in honor of Mrs. Claudia (Nance) Rollins, wife of W. Henry Rollins and mother of O. Wayne and John W. Rollins. For 70 years, this tradition has been kept alive and the family has gathered every year since then, to share old memories and create new ones. This year’s event will be a catered fish fry.
