Volunteers needed for annual National Public Lands Day at Battlefield

-

Join volunteers across the nation on Saturday, Sept. 30, taking part in National Public Lands Day, the largest single-day volunteer effort for public lands in the United States.

This year’s activities at Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will focus on the walking path located at the historic Brotherton Cabin (Tour Stop 4) in Chickamauga Battlefield. These walkways provide easy access to the cabin site and are in need of replacing.

Sign-up will start at 8:30 a.m. in the lower parking lot of the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center. Come dressed for outdoor work and wear clothes you do not mind getting dirty. For safety reasons and due to the nature of the work, clothing should include long-sleeved shirts, long pants, work gloves, and tennis shoes or work boots. Prepare for the sun with a cap, sunscreen, bug spray, and plenty of water to drink.

After the event, an interpretive program will be provided by park staff beginning at 2 pm. Please meet at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center for this program.

For information about National Public Lands Day at the park, please contact Volunteer Coordinator Will Wilson at 423-752-5213 ext. 137; or at will_wilson@nps.gov.
