LaFayette spikers survive Chattooga test

Class AAAA’s No. 5-ranked Lady Ramblers got a huge scare from Class AA’s No. 10-ranked Chattooga Lady Indians on Thursday before LaFayette was able to finally squeeze out a 27-25, 22-25, 28-26 victory in a thrilling match in south Walker County.

In the night’s other match, the Orange-and-Black had a significan­tly easier time with North Murray, winning in straight sets, 25-13 and 25-13.

Jillian Morgan paced the offense with 18 kills on the night to go with two blocks and ace. Sarah Ray continued her stellar play with 11 kills and block, while Katie Dixon had 10 kills, 10 digs and ace. Emily Redden finished with 43 assists to go with seven digs and three aces and Bailey Tarvin had 20 digs, five aces and a kill.

Other contributo­rs included Darsey Shields (7 kills, 4 digs, 1 ace), Blakely Lankford (4 digs, 1 ace), Michaela Hobbs (5 digs, 2 aces) and Elania Kirkendoll (1 block).

Gracie Stier had two digs and a block in the first match, but suffered a sprained ankle early in the second match, which ended her night.

The LaFayette varsity squad is 25-6 on the season

LaFayette JV win in Dalton

For the second straight year, the LaFayette Lady Ramblers won the JV version of the Southeast Whitfield Raider Rally on Saturday.

LaFayette went 2-1 in pool play, defeating Ridgeland and North Murray in two sets, but losing 2-1 to Heritage. In bracket play, the Lady Ramblers posted straight sets victories over Murray County and West Forsyth before drawing Heritage again in the championsh­ip.

The Lady Generals would win the opening set, but LaFayette would come back to win the second and third sets to clinch the title.
