GLHS, Heritage runners perform well in Cartersvil­le

The Gordon Lee and Heritage High School cross country teams turned in solid showings at the 11th Annual Run at the Rock Invitation­al in Cartersvil­le on Saturday. The meet was hosted by Woodland High School.

The Lady Trojans came in seventh overall in the 16-team field. Gracie O’Neal clocked in with a 19:57 to place second overall, giving the sophomore a win and a runner-up finish in her first two races this season.

O’Neal’s secondplac­e showing prevent a top seven sweep by the host school. Woodland’s Carli Clymer ran a 19:45, while her teammates finished third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and 10th. Woodland won the meet with 19 points, far outdistanc­ing East Paulding (111) and Cartersvil­le (145).

Riley Cash was 18th for Gordon Lee (23:23), while Taylor McAllister (24:42) and Grayson Alexander (24:43) both ran in the top 50. Other varsity finishers for the Lady Trojans included Kaylan Jackson (25:52), Chanler Hysell (27:05), Michaela Russell (29:35) and Lexi Tennant (33:12).

In the girls’ junior varsity race, Gordon Lee finishers included Ashley Rawlston (32:36) and Drew Presnell (36:40).

Heritage finished a very respectabl­e fourth overall in the varsity race, led by Alex Gass, who ran a 22:47 to place 13th. Freshman Allison Craft was 15th (23:00), while Caylee Carpenter was 20th (23:33).

The rest of the varsity lineup included Lucy Hicks (25:08), Lilly Black (25:14), Finley Brisendine (25:55), Skye Remko (26:17), Caroline Coffey (27:06) and Hannah Colston (29:58). Kori Moore (32:52), Lauren Penny (33:29) and Maggie Grayson (35:02) competed in the JV race for the Lady Generals.

Wheeler High School amassed 45 points to win the 20-team boys’ event. Woodland (113) was second and Cartersvil­le (145) placed third.

Gordon Lee placed eighth in the standings, while Jasper Wilson was the individual runnerup. Wilson ran a 17:28 to finish just six seconds in back of winner Alex Dyck of Wheeler (17:22). Ian Goodwin (18:38) got in the top 20 for the Trojans, finishing 18th.

The rest of the Gordon Lee varsity lineup included Jake Lee (19:07), Braxton Ledford (20:00), Cole Collins (21:32), Hunter Hartman (23:21), Beau Barrett (24:03), Jagger Martin (24:30), Michael Hubona (24:31) and Alex Stone (25:07). Tanner Wilson (22:09) and Cody McCutcheon (24:03) ran in the JV race.

For Heritage, Caleb Boyd was the top runner as he clocked in with a time of 18:28 to place 13th. Also racing for the Generals in the varsity race was Joel Lewis (19:31), Dakota Carter (20:04), Lance Marshall (20:49), Caleb Buckler (20:50), Nhan Le (20:58), Luke Shacklefor­d (20:59), Jacob Stanley (21:55), Matthew Vowell (22:08) and Andrew Song (23:18).

Running for the Generals’ JV squad was Jonathan Manion (21:13), Zack Locke (21:26), Tyler Tomey (21:28), Garrett Aaron (22:44), Tristan Rogers (23:32), Hunter McCrary (23:38), Tim Grayson (23:42), Simon Rhodes (24:24), Jake Krajesky (24:42), Gabriel Leal (25:10), Losh Lynch (25:37), Will Kelly (27:26 and Ethan Clark (27:32).
