COMMUNITY · Nursing and patient care profession­als seeking career opportunit­ies are invited to attend an open house and job fair at Parkridge Medical Center on Wednesday, Sept. 20, from 5-8 p.m. During the event, Parkridge Health System recruiters will be looking to fill more than 100 registered nursing and patient care tech positions among the system’s Chattanoog­a locations that also include Parkridge East Hospital and Parkridge Valley Hospital. The open house and job fair will be held at the Parkridge Medical Center Diagnostic Center, at 2205 McCallie Ave., Chattanoog­a. Refreshmen­ts will be provided. EDUCATION · The Chattanoog­a State Nursing Program will host a site review for continuing accreditat­ion of its Associate Degree Nursing Program by the Accreditat­ion Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) on Sept. 19-21, 2017. Chattanoog­a State Technical Community College is located at 4501 Amnicola Highway. The public is invited to meet the site visit team and share your comments about the program in person on Sept. 20, 2017 from 2:303:30 p.m. in the HSC Building, room 1083.

MEETING · The public is invited to the September 2017 monthly meeting of the Walker County Democrats will be held at the Rossville Public Library, 504 McFarland Ave., beginning at 6:30 p.m., on Thursday, Sept. 21. The topic is: “Are there limits to free speech?” with speaker Tom McMahan, a social studies high school teacher. A panel of knowledgea­ble citizens — including Rev. Bryce Current, Dr. Gene Mesco (college professor), Mr. Nick Deslattes (social worker), Mr. Patrick Hickey (warehouse worker) — will respond to McMahan’s remarks from diverse perspectiv­es. Friday, Sept. 22

RECREATION · Friday night hikes at Cloudland Canyon State Park are 2-mile walks on one of the park’s best trails. Participan­ts will learn interestin­g facts about the geology and history of the canyon. By the end of the hike, hikers will be in the dark, enjoying the trail by moonlight and listening for night sounds. Ages 10 and older. Reservatio­ns Required. Snacks and water will be available for you take with you on the hike and headlamps will be provided. Please bring a small pack to carry your items.
