Lady Warriors clinch Region 6-AAA North top seed
The LFO Lady Warriors shook off a subregion loss at Ringgold last Monday night by winning their final three 6-AAA North games of the season later in the week, clinching the subregion title for the Red-andWhite.
Ringgold 5, LFO 4
LFO led 3-0 and 4-2, but ultimately surrendered the winning run in the bottom of the eighth to fall to their Catoosa County rivals in Ringgold.
Kourtney Morrison took the loss for LFO, allowing four earned runs on eight hits with seven walks and a strikeout.
Taylor Phillips had two hits and an RBI for visitors, while Shaniyah Jones had a single and a triple and scored once. Keelie Mauk also picked up an RBI on a perfect squeeze bunt.
LFO 5, Murray County 1
The Lady Warriors surrendered a run in the top of the first inning, but answered with three in the bottom half of the frame. They tacked on solo runs in the second and fifth to help them overcome three errors.
Haley Stahl pitched a complete game, giving up five hits and not allowing an earned run. Jones was 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI.
Phillips doubled, while Morrison and Chelsey Lindsay also had hits in the win. Morrison and Karson Bradford each picked up an RBI.
LFO 6, Murray County 3
Tied 1-1 going into the top of the fifth, LFO - playing as the visiting team in the nightcap - erupted for five runs to take a big lead. The Lady Indians would plate two in the bottom of the inning, but those would be the last two tallies of the night for either team.
Lindsay went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Morrison had a double and knocked in two runs. Bradford collected another RBI and Stahl capped her night with a solo homer.
LFO 10, North Murray 3
Phillips celebrated her 17th birthday on Thursday by smashing a pair of home runs, including a grand slam, and collected seven RBIs as the Lady Warriors wrapped up the Region 6-AAA North title with a home win on Senior Night at Chip Liner Field.
She finished the game 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, while her seven RBI’s were one shy of the school record, which she set in a game earlier this season.
Jones, Stahl and Lindsay each had two of LFO’s 10 hits, while Morrison and Bradford both drove in a run. Morrison got the win, giving up three earned runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
Norcross 5, LFO 4
The Lady Warriors began their final prep work before the start of next week’s Region 6-AAA tournament this past Friday with a pair of games in at a
tournament hosted by Grayson High School in metro-Atlanta.
LFO led 3-2 going into the top of the sixth when the Class AAAAAAA Blue Devils plated a run to tie it up. Norcross added two in the top of the seventh, while the Lady Warriors could only push across one run in their final at-bat.
Stahl allowed 14 hits, but just two earned runs as LFO committed four errors behind her. She struck out two batters and walked just one.
Phillips stayed redhot, even in defeat. The shortstop was 3-for-3 with a pair of double and three RBIs. Bradford and Lindsay both had two hits, while Jones was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
ELCA 1, LFO 0
In the nightcap, ninth-ranked LFO (Class AAA) gave up a run in the top of the sixth and fell to third-ranked Eagles’ Landing Christian (Class A Private), 1-0, in a six-inning, time-limit contest.
LFO managed just three hits, a double by Phillips and singles off the bat of Maddy Adkins and Morrison.
Morrison suffered the loss in the circle, giving up just the one earned run on five hits, one walk and six strikeouts.
Grayson 13, LFO 6
The Rams, the fifthranked team in Class AAAAAAA put up nine runs in the bottom of the fifth to erase a 6-4 deficit.
Morrison homered and knocked in two in the loss. Phillips had two hits. Jerrian Jackson doubled and had two RBIs, while Keelie Mauk and Jessica Coates both added one RBI.
Jennifer Coates allowed 11 earned runs on 16 hits in 4.2 innings as she took the loss.
LFO 4, Columbus 0
The Lady Warriors ended Saturday on a high note, shutting out the Class AAAA Blue Devils behind a fivehitter from Morrison, who walked just one and struck out six in seven innings.
Jones had two hits, including a double, scored twice and knocked in two runs. Lindsay had one RBI for the Lady Warriors.
LFO (16-10) will host Haralson County in the first round of the 6-AAA tournament. The bestof-three series will start with a doubleheader on Tuesday. Game 1 is slated to start at 4:30.
