Mid­dle School Soft­ball: Langston strikes out 15 in win over CVMS

The Gordon Lee Lady Tro­jans made the short drive to Ridge­land High School last Mon­day and found the un­fa­mil­iar sur­round­ings to their liking as they shut out Chat­tanooga Val­ley, 9-0, in an NGAC clash.

Emma Langston was a beast in the circle, al­low­ing just one hit and strik­ing out 15 bat­ters in the six-in­ning af­fair. She also had a big game at the plate with a dou­ble and a sin­gle in four at-bats.

Al­lie Far­row went 3-for-3 with three sin­gles, while Asia Lan­ham went 2-for-3. An­nis­ton Hud­son, Emma Smith and Emma Phillips were all 1-for-3 for the Lady Tro­jans, who will host Dade County in league play today.

Jenna Mor­gan col­lected the only hit for the Lady Ea­gles.

Ring­gold 15, Lake For­est 2

The Lady Tigers broke open a 3-2 game with a seven-spot in the top of the fourth in­ning and picked up a non-league vic­tory in Cleve­land, Tenn. last Mon­day.

Zoey DeFoor, Tay­lor Layne, Au­tumn Green, Han­nah Scott and Addy Broome all had two hits each for the Lady Tigers. Layne and Baileigh Pitts each drove in three runs, while DeFoor and Broome col­lected two each.

Lakeview 5, Sad­dle Ridge 3

The Lady War­riors got seven strike­outs from Julie Shore and picked up a win over Sad­dle Ridge on Mon­day.

Shore did not walk a sin­gle bat­ter in four in­nings of work in the circle. Shore and Lexi Downey each drove in a run for Lakeview, while Desti­nee Smith went 2-for-2.

Abby Sans­ing struck out five hit­ters for Sad­dle Ridge, while Lexi Baker fanned two in re­lief.

Gordon Lee 3, Dade County 1

On Tues­day, Langston recorded nine strike­outs in seven in­nings and the Lady Tro­jans picked up a home win over the Lady Wolverines.

Gordon Lee man­aged just three hits on the day. Ma­cie Sharp’s tworun dou­ble in the fourth was the big blow, while Langston and Hud­son were both 1-for-3.

Chat­tanooga Val­ley 3, Trion 0

The Lady Ea­gles shook off Mon­day’s loss to Gordon Lee by pick­ing up a shutout on a damp Tues­day af­ter­noon at Trion.

Madi­son Bow­man dou­bled in the top of the first in­ning and came home on a Cor­da­sia Watkins RBI. That would be all the scor­ing un­til the top of the sev­enth when CVMS plated two more in­sur­ance runs. Mor­gan had a lead­off triple and Mag­gie Dick­son walked be­fore Bow­man and Watkins de­liv­ered RBI-sin­gles.

Mor­gan also had a dou­ble in the win. Bow­man and Watkins both had two hits, while one of Watkins’ hit was a triple. Bow­man pitched all seven in­nings, al­low­ing just three hits and fanning 12.

Halie Thomp­son and Kelsey Goins were men­tioned as de­fen­sive stand­outs for the Lady Ea­gles.

Dade County 9, Lakeview 0

The Red-and-White man­aged just three hits and com­mit­ted nine de­fen­sive er­rors in a loss to Dade County last Wed­nes­day af­ter­noon.

Caro­line Wrape had a sin­gle and a triple to ac­count for two of Lakeview’s hits, while Shore sin­gled once in three trips to the plate.

Dade County 5, Chat­tanooga Val­ley 0

The Lady Wolverines picked up four un­earned runs in the first in­ning and went on to shutout the Lady Ea­gles on Thurs­day.

Bow­man pitched well in de­feat, strik­ing out seven and giv­ing up just one earned run in seven in­nings. Mor­gan went 2-for-3.

Sad­dle Ridge 18, LaFayette 2

The Lady Mus­tangs got their lon­gawaited first win of 2017 on Thurs­day.

Sum­mer Bur­kett led the way for the Mus­tangs by go­ing 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored. Haynie Gil­strap had two hits, two RBIs and scored twice, while Sans­ing had a dou­ble, two RBIs and scored three runs.

Baker scored three times, adding a hit and an RBI. Myk­e­ria Johnson, Larissa Goines and Carly Spur­lock each scored once and drove in two runs. Madi­son Sise­more had a hit, an RBI and a run. Abby Gaoa knocked in a run. Fan­tasja Bar­ber scored three times. Kristin Bethune scored once and Sara Pend­ley added a great play on de­fense.

Baker struck out four and al­lowed just two hits.

Ring­gold 13, Trion 5

The Lady Tigers scored six times in the bot­tom of the sec­ond and added five runs in the bot­tom of the fifth en route to a vic­tory over Trion on Thurs­day.

Pitts sin­gled, tripled and home­red, fin­ish­ing the day with five RBIs. Ri­ley Heard also had three hits in the 13-hit at­tack, while Ava Raby had a pair of doubles. DeFoor and Layne also had two hits in the win.

Gordon Lee 4, Her­itage 0

The Gordon Lee Lady Tro­jans scored twice in the first and third in­nings and beat vis­it­ing Her­itage in a Fri­day soft­ball matinee at Crys­tal Springs Field in Chicka­mauga.

The Lady Tro­jans got a two-run dou­ble from birth­day girl Macy Sharp in the first in­ning, while two more runs came home in the third on RBIs by An­nis­ton Hud­son and Emma McGraw.

Emma Langston al­lowed eight hits and three walks, strik­ing eight in the win. She was also 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored. Mila Smith was 2-for-2 with a walk.

Brin­ley Horner took the loss for the Lady Gen­er­als, giv­ing up four walks and nine hits in six in­nings with two strike­outs. Jes­sica Gib­son, Made­line Stone and Lexi Duck­ett each had two hits, while Ri­ley Kokinda added a dou­ble.
