Middle School Softball: Langston strikes out 15 in win over CVMS

The Gordon Lee Lady Trojans made the short drive to Ridgeland High School last Monday and found the unfamiliar surroundin­gs to their liking as they shut out Chattanoog­a Valley, 9-0, in an NGAC clash.

Emma Langston was a beast in the circle, allowing just one hit and striking out 15 batters in the six-inning affair. She also had a big game at the plate with a double and a single in four at-bats.

Allie Farrow went 3-for-3 with three singles, while Asia Lanham went 2-for-3. Anniston Hudson, Emma Smith and Emma Phillips were all 1-for-3 for the Lady Trojans, who will host Dade County in league play today.

Jenna Morgan collected the only hit for the Lady Eagles.

Ringgold 15, Lake Forest 2

The Lady Tigers broke open a 3-2 game with a seven-spot in the top of the fourth inning and picked up a non-league victory in Cleveland, Tenn. last Monday.

Zoey DeFoor, Taylor Layne, Autumn Green, Hannah Scott and Addy Broome all had two hits each for the Lady Tigers. Layne and Baileigh Pitts each drove in three runs, while DeFoor and Broome collected two each.

Lakeview 5, Saddle Ridge 3

The Lady Warriors got seven strikeouts from Julie Shore and picked up a win over Saddle Ridge on Monday.

Shore did not walk a single batter in four innings of work in the circle. Shore and Lexi Downey each drove in a run for Lakeview, while Destinee Smith went 2-for-2.

Abby Sansing struck out five hitters for Saddle Ridge, while Lexi Baker fanned two in relief.

Gordon Lee 3, Dade County 1

On Tuesday, Langston recorded nine strikeouts in seven innings and the Lady Trojans picked up a home win over the Lady Wolverines.

Gordon Lee managed just three hits on the day. Macie Sharp’s tworun double in the fourth was the big blow, while Langston and Hudson were both 1-for-3.

Chattanoog­a Valley 3, Trion 0

The Lady Eagles shook off Monday’s loss to Gordon Lee by picking up a shutout on a damp Tuesday afternoon at Trion.

Madison Bowman doubled in the top of the first inning and came home on a Cordasia Watkins RBI. That would be all the scoring until the top of the seventh when CVMS plated two more insurance runs. Morgan had a leadoff triple and Maggie Dickson walked before Bowman and Watkins delivered RBI-singles.

Morgan also had a double in the win. Bowman and Watkins both had two hits, while one of Watkins’ hit was a triple. Bowman pitched all seven innings, allowing just three hits and fanning 12.

Halie Thompson and Kelsey Goins were mentioned as defensive standouts for the Lady Eagles.

Dade County 9, Lakeview 0

The Red-and-White managed just three hits and committed nine defensive errors in a loss to Dade County last Wednesday afternoon.

Caroline Wrape had a single and a triple to account for two of Lakeview’s hits, while Shore singled once in three trips to the plate.

Dade County 5, Chattanoog­a Valley 0

The Lady Wolverines picked up four unearned runs in the first inning and went on to shutout the Lady Eagles on Thursday.

Bowman pitched well in defeat, striking out seven and giving up just one earned run in seven innings. Morgan went 2-for-3.

Saddle Ridge 18, LaFayette 2

The Lady Mustangs got their longawaite­d first win of 2017 on Thursday.

Summer Burkett led the way for the Mustangs by going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored. Haynie Gilstrap had two hits, two RBIs and scored twice, while Sansing had a double, two RBIs and scored three runs.

Baker scored three times, adding a hit and an RBI. Mykeria Johnson, Larissa Goines and Carly Spurlock each scored once and drove in two runs. Madison Sisemore had a hit, an RBI and a run. Abby Gaoa knocked in a run. Fantasja Barber scored three times. Kristin Bethune scored once and Sara Pendley added a great play on defense.

Baker struck out four and allowed just two hits.

Ringgold 13, Trion 5

The Lady Tigers scored six times in the bottom of the second and added five runs in the bottom of the fifth en route to a victory over Trion on Thursday.

Pitts singled, tripled and homered, finishing the day with five RBIs. Riley Heard also had three hits in the 13-hit attack, while Ava Raby had a pair of doubles. DeFoor and Layne also had two hits in the win.

Gordon Lee 4, Heritage 0

The Gordon Lee Lady Trojans scored twice in the first and third innings and beat visiting Heritage in a Friday softball matinee at Crystal Springs Field in Chickamaug­a.

The Lady Trojans got a two-run double from birthday girl Macy Sharp in the first inning, while two more runs came home in the third on RBIs by Anniston Hudson and Emma McGraw.

Emma Langston allowed eight hits and three walks, striking eight in the win. She was also 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored. Mila Smith was 2-for-2 with a walk.

Brinley Horner took the loss for the Lady Generals, giving up four walks and nine hits in six innings with two strikeouts. Jessica Gibson, Madeline Stone and Lexi Duckett each had two hits, while Riley Kokinda added a double.
