Lady Panthers thump Dade on Senior Night

The Ridgeland Lady Panthers celebrated Senior Night on Monday and did so by rolling past visiting Dade County, 25-13 and 25-11.

The Lady Wolverines were up 8-7 in the early stages of the first set, looking to spoil the night’s festivitie­s. But following a timeout, the Lady Panthers reeled off 12 of the next 13 points, including six straight service points by Tenley Moore, to take control.

Ridgeland would keep their foot on the gas pedal after that as they rode the momentum to a victory in the second set, clinching the match.

Rachel Atchley had 14 assists and three aces, while fellow senior Abbi Witherow had three aces and three digs from her libero spot.

Jayda Jenkins and Landree Dunn each finished with seven kills, while Sarah Williams ended her night with five aces.

Following Monday’s win, the Lady Panthers scored a 25-22, 25-20 home win over Pickens on Tuesday, but proceeded to end the week with three straight losses.

Third-ranked Northwest Whitfield prevented a tri-match sweep on Tuesday by beating Ridgeland, 2513 and 25-17. Ridgeland took one on the chin at Southeast Whitfield, 2523 and 25-12, on

Wednesday and Thursday saw the Black-and-White cross state lines to nearby Chattanoog­a Christian, only to be handed a 2514, 25-8, 25-10 loss in a best-of-five match.

Jenkins had 11 digs and nine kills against Pickens, while Tara Taylor had nine digs and six aces. Witherow finished with 16 digs,

Atchley had 12 assists and Williams collected two kills and two blocks.

Against the Lady Bruins, Jenkins and Landree Dunn had four kills apiece. Witherow recorded 11 digs, while Atchley had nine assists and an ace.

Jenkins and Dunn both had four kills and a block against the Lady Raiders. Atchley finished with 13 assists, seven digs, two kills and an ace. Witherow had nine digs, while Tori Elliott and Sydney

Davis finished with two kills apiece.

Then against the Chargers, Atchley had eight digs and nine assists in the match. Williams recorded five kills and an ace. Jenkins had three kills and seven digs, while Davis had two kills and five digs.

Ridgeland (20-16, 3-3) was slated to play at Coahulla Creek at 5 p.m. on Tuesday before hosting Pickens in the area tournament on Thursday at 5:30.
