Police report Brewer located the suspect’s vehicle at about 3 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6, just hours after an Amber Alert had been issued.

The suspect, Douglas Steven Turner, 36, had taken his children and their mother from their residence in the 6000 block of Trion Highway.

Brewer was checking area motels when he discovered the suspect’s vehicle, a light blue Chevrolet Astro Van, parked behind the Morgan Motel on North Main Street.

Police backup, along with Walker County Sheriff’s Department, arrived on scene and

the manager told police a female had and was in room No. 15.

With weapons drawn, authorities knocked, announced their arrival and an officer spotted Turner trying to escape out the bathroom window.

The mother answered the door and was quickly removed from the room while the two young girls were found asleep in separate beds.

Turner was ordered out of the bathroom with his hands up.

On his commendation, Brewer said, “It’s just part of my job. This is the job we do. It was great to know we located the missing subjects and arrested the suspect without any harm or incident.”
