Rifle: LaFayette improves to 2-1

The LaFayette High School AJROTC defeated Selma MCJROTC of California, 1,478-1,443 in last week’s Orion National Air Rifle League match.

It was the second straight win for LaFayette, who is now 2-1 in the Precision Champions Division.

Emma Sargeant led LaFayette with a 381 (out of 400). The remaining contributi­ng members were Alyssa Kiser (375), Logan Massingill (365), and Steven Thompson (357). Troy Mussared (337) and Andrew Carroll (335) also shot for the Ramblers.

Next up for LaFayette will be a match against Eugene Ashley NJROTC from Wilmington, N.C., (1-1)..

Ridgeland’s AFJROTC rifle team dropped its match to West JROTC of Denver, Colo., 1,325-1,298.

West, now 3-0 in the JROTC Precision Distinguis­hed Division of the league, was led by a 354 from Daniel Ponce de Leon.

Martin Camlic also had a 354 for Ridgeland, who dropped to 1-2 on the season. Also shooting for the Panthers was Tyler Atchison (339), Daniel Barrett (304), Zori Champion (301), Savannah Carroll (292), Herbert Bradley (288), Michael Hoffman (283) and Brandon Wright (266).

Up next for the Panthers is Leavenwort­h (Kan.) AJROTC (0-3).
