Oakwood Christian softball ready to roll

After two seasons of creating and building its softball program, the Oakwood Christian High School Lady Eagles hope that this is the season when they take that next step.

The Lady Eagles are returning a majority of their players from last spring and head coach Charme Ray said game knowledge for all of her players has improved exponentia­lly.

“Overall, we have an athletic bunch of girls,” she said. “The key is just for the girls to blend as a team and work hard. We’re hoping that it doesn’t rain any more so we can play ball and have fun.”

Most of the returning players are located in the sophomore and freshman classes, although the upperclass­men will still be counted on to help provide leadership for the younger players.

The senior class includes the versatile Natalei Raines, who has previous softball experience and is back on the field after taking a year away from the sport. Raines has good quickness and solid bat and is a good enough defensive player to play in the infield, the outfield or behind the plate. The other senior, Maddie Young, is new to softball, but Ray said that Young is improving and building her skills on a daily basis.
