Ringgold teams finish third at Gordon Central Relays

The Ringgold Tigers and Lady Tigers’ track teams both finished in third place at the Farmers Insurance Relays at Gordon Central High School on Saturday.

The unique format, which takes the combined finishes for each school’s individual athletes for most of the events, saw host Gordon Central win both team championsh­ips.

The Lady Warriors finished with 109 points to edge out Darlington (100) for the title. Ringgold (56) finished ahead of four other schools. The top three teams were the same on the boys’ side with Gordon Central (140), Darlington (104) and Ringgold (76) leading the way.

Ringgold’s girls won the high jump as Annabelle Duckett and Morgan Allen both cleared 4-8. Duckett (17.12), Abi Mealor (21.06) and Julia Hig- gins (21.08) also took first place in the girls’ 100 hurdles, while Duckett (55.84) was first individual­ly in the girls’ 300 hurdles.

The Lady Tigers “A” team was second in the 4x100 relay (54.89). Ringgold’s “B” team (57.78) was sixth, while the “C” team (59.19) placed eighth. Ringgold’s “A” team was second in the 800-meter sprint medley with a time of 2:08.42. The “B” team (2:20.65) was fifth.

Ringgold’s girls had two top eight finishes in the 4x400. The “A” team (4:45.26) placed third, while the “B” team (5:08.71) was eighth. Ringgold’s “A” team also took fourth in the 4x800 relay with a time of 13:21.53.

For the Tigers, they also took first in the 110 hurdles behind the combined efforts of Gabe Elmore (14.75), Luke Mills (21.70) and Jackson Brumfield (22.76). Mills also placed fourth in the 300 hurdles (56.15).

Ringgold’s 4x400 “A” team won first place in a time of 3:41.15, while the “B” team (4:19.69) placed sixth. The 4x1600 team finished second with a time of 23:38.99. The 4x100 “A” team (45.16) was also second, while the “B” team (48.63) was seventh. The Tigers’ “A” team also placed second in the 800-meter sprint relay, clocking in at 1:42.07.

In the triple jump, Pete Brower (383.75) and Blake Goldsmith (34-7.5) combined to earn third place. Third place also went to the shot put team of Reid Williams (38-11), Will House (33-7) and Conner King (31-2), while that same trio also took third in the discus. Williams led the way at 93-2, followed by King and House (both at 91-3).

Ringgold’s 4x800 team (10:39.95) finished fifth. The 4x200 team (1:54.35) also finished fifth, while the distance medley team (14:46.93) placed sixth.
