Middle School Baseball: Gordon Lee picks up two more wins

A seven-run second inning would be plenty of cushion for the Gordon Lee Trojans last Tuesday as they defeated Rossville, 16-1, in a North Georgia Athletic Conference game at Ridgeland High School.

Nate Dunfee and Conner Whitman each had two hits and two RBIs for the Trojans, while one of Whitman’s hits was a double. Holt Roberts had two hits, including a double, and drove in four runs, while Brodie Genter, Bo Rhudy, Hunter Holmes and Ty Forester each had one RBI.

Genter started the game on the mound and pitched two innings of one-hit ball. He walked one batter and struck out four, while the run he surrendere­d in the bottom of the first inning was unearned. Dunfee gave up one hit over the last two innings. He walked one and struck out five.

Hudson Couch took the loss for the Bulldogs, while Ethan Waters pitched in relief. Couch and Logan Fowler had the only two hits for Rossville. game earlier on Friday.

Dylan Blankenshi­p went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and three runs scored. Tanner Mantooth doubled and drove in a run. Alex Cope and Carter Wilson had two RBIs each, while Carter Davis and Gabe Helton both had one RBI.

The games were played at the Jack Mattox Complex in Ringgold.

The Warriors got in two more games on Saturday, but only managed a split. Despite four errors, Lakeview was able to pull out the victory against the Lions. Aiden Crawford went 2-for3, including a clutch two-out, two-strike, two-run single as part of a six-run third inning.

Grayden Johnson and Manning Trusley both had two RBIs in the win, while Leonard, Carson Goff and Nathaniel Samples each had one RBI.

Crawford allowed two earned runs on two hits and a walk in two innings, finishing with three strikeouts. Trusley gave up two earned runs on two hits and three walks with one strikeout in one inning on the mound, while Donnahoo gave up an earned run on two walks and no hits in one inning. victory over visiting LaFayette in a North Georgia Athletic Conference game on Wednesday.

Two runs by LaFayette in the top of the sixth inning staked the Ramblers to a 3-1 lead. However, Ringgold would push across a run in the bottom of the sixth and then loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh on a hit batter, a Gilbert single and a walk.

Norman, who had two hits on the day, including a double, drove in a run with a fielder’s choice before Gilbert sprinted home the gamewinner following a LaFayette error.

Samuel Crew had a hit and drove in two runs, while he also started the game on the mound. He threw the first five innings, allowing one earned run on four hits and no walks with five strikeouts, but got no decision. Norman threw the final two innings in relief. He surrendere­d two earned runs on one hit and a walk with four strikeouts.

Barrett pitched six innings for the Ramblers, giving up two runs — one earned — on three hits and two walks with nine strikeouts. He also went 1-for-3 at the plate. Nick Adams hit a solo homer for LaFayette, while Zain Smith drew a walk and scored one run.
