Heritage looks like team to beat as season nears midway point

The Heritage Middle School volleyball team had little trouble with Dade County last Monday afternoon, sweeping the Lady Wolverines in a doublehead­er at home.

The varsity Lady Generals cruised, 25-4 and 25-9, while the JV Lady Generals posted a 25-19, 25-15 victory. Ava Davey finished with 11 aces on the day for the Navy-and-Red.

Heritage then took both ends of a volleyball doublehead­er from Rossville last Tuesday. The varsity squad picked up a 25-10, 25-14 victory behind eight aces from Davey, five aces and six assists from Georgia Taylor and four kills from Haylee Brownsey.

Hailey Burns had two aces for Rossville. Rilynn Strickland had one kill. Callie Hayes added a dig, while Haylee Cross and Piper Newbille recorded one ace each.

Heritage also won the JV match, 25-12 and 25-4. No statistics for the Lady Generals were provided as of press time. Maya Bible had two aces for the Lady Bulldogs.

Heritage closed out the week by winning two matches at Chattanoog­a Valley on Thursday.

The Lady Generals scored a varsity win, 25-13 and 255, and a JV win, 25-13, 2514. Brownsey had seven kills and five aces for Heritage in the varsity victory. Aaliyah Rodgers had five kills and five aces, while Davey hammered home six kills. Taylor and Sydney McAllister were the top assist-givers with 10 and six, respective­ly.

For the Lady Eagles, Allie Young, Cami Towns, Sara Friar and Caitlyn Smolik were named as standouts on defense for the varsity squad, while Hope Allen had three unreturnab­le serves. Autumn Blevins and Deborah Gutierrez were praised for their serving in the JV match and head coach Jennifer Hobbs said the entire team showed improvemen­t on the defensive side.

The Gordon Lee Lady Trojans welcomed the Rossville Lady Bulldogs to Chickamaug­a last Monday afternoon and swept the Blueand-White in both ends of a doublehead­er.

In the varsity match, the Lady Trojans picked up the win, 25-7 and 25-3. Reese Roberts had eight service points in a row in the opening set for Gordon Lee. Bailey Campbell had seven consecutiv­e service points in the first set, while Reagan Yancey controlled the front row for the home team.

Yancey had five service points in the second set, while Jalie Haney closed the match out with 12 service points in a row.

For Rossville, Ashley Ladd had an ace and a kill. Strickland also added an ace, while Savannah Hall and Tailor Roe both had one dig.

In the junior varsity match, Gordon Lee scored a 25-12, 25-11 victory. Kaci McDaniel had 10 service points in the opening set. Emerson Loach had seven service points in the second set, while Addison Cagle had six service points to help close out the match.

Stella Stephens had a kill and an ace for the Lady Bulldogs, while Alexis Hicks, Ianna Luttrell and Ana Anguiana also had aces for Rossville.

Last Monday night’s varsity game turned into a nail-biter that went three sets before the Lady Warriors were able to finally put away a 25-19, 2125, 25-23 victory. Madolynn Loyd had six kills and four aces for the Lady Warriors in the opener. Zoey Martin had four kills and Chloe Qualls ended the match with four digs.

The Lady Eagles got outstandin­g serving from Friar, Smolik, Young, Towns and Emily Ensley. Betsy Hixon was a standout on defense, while Wheeler had three crucial blocks, according to Hobbs.

In the JV match, the Lady Eagles won another threesette­r, 25-22, 24-26 and 1512. Emma Bowman, Abigail Knight and Isabella Boyko all had one ace each in a strong night of serving for all three players.

For Lakeview, Jayden Williams had seven aces and collected eight service points, while Mercedes Thompson picked up seven kills.

The Lady Ramblers picked up a 25-8, 25-19 varsity win over the Lady Eagles last Tuesday, while the LaFayette JV team posted a 25-20, 25-10 victory.

Erin Ball had seven aces, three kills and an assist for LaFayette in the win. Michaela Baker finished with seven kills and an ace. Jenna Torbett recorded five aces and five assists. Kenedy Ludy served up two aces, while Gracie Headrick had four assists and an ace.

Kylia Van Pelt and Gracie Rambo had five aces apiece for LaFayette. Rhiannon Ramirez added four aces. Jayda English finished with three aces and two kills, while Aleia Harris collected three aces.

The Lady Eagles got six digs from Smolik and five consecutiv­e aces from Young in the varsity match. The CVMS junior varsity team got solid serving from Boyko, Blevins and Kylee Thurman.

The varsity Lady Mustangs hosted Ringgold last Tuesday and took down the Lady Tigers by scores of 2518 and 25-15.

Cecelia Davenport had five blocks and five kills. Fanny Barber had 12 digs and three kills. Erin Lemons finished with 11 assists, 10 digs, three digs and two aces. Vianca Segarra had 12 digs, four aces and a kill. Mercedes Mitchell finished with nine assists, two kills and a dig, while Maggie Hambrick collected six aces, 13 digs and a kill.

Also contributi­ng in the win were Mallony Mitchell and Mary Alice Ertz with one ace and one dig each, Aubrey Nowlin with one ace and Sierra Nowlin with one dig.

For Ringgold, Cady Helton had five kills, four assists and three digs. Brooke Armstrong added four digs, three assists and a pair of aces. Kaitlyn Dinkins had two aces and a kill. Sophia Patterson recorded one ace and one kill, while Kayleigh Carpenter and Addie Andrew both chipped in with an ace.

The JV match went the way of the home team as Ringgold posted a 25-9, 25-20 victory behind five aces and six assists from Noel Fries. Faith Keisling and Kaylie Hampton each had three aces and three assists. Adyson Stoner recorded four aces and a pair of assists, while Emma Varnell had an ace and three digs.

For Saddle Ridge, Lydia Haggard had a half-dozen aces to go with two digs and two kills. Emma Hixson finished with four digs, two aces and an assist. Alesia Leaks served up two aces and collected four digs, while Jessica Morris had two kills for the Lady Mustangs.

Also getting on the stat sheet was Lanie Hamilton (two assists, two digs, one kill), Libby Kate Parnell (one ace, two digs), Mandy Moyer (one kill), Autumn Morgan (one dig) and Addison Meloche (one dig). The Lady Tigers’ varsity team cruised past visiting Dade County on Thursday, thumping the Lady Wolverines in straight sets, 25-12 and 25-8.

Mattix Hollingswo­rth had 11 aces for Ringgold. Armstrong picked up nine aces, four assists and a kill. Carpenter recorded five aces, two assists and one kill. Dinkins served up six aces to go with an assist and a kill, while Helton added seven assists and three kills.

Ringgold’s JV squad was not as fortunate as they dropped a 26-24, 25-19 decision.

Standouts included Keisling (nine aces, four assists), Stoner (six aces, one assist, one kill) and Varnell (four assists). Other contributo­rs were Sommer Baikey (three assists), Kaylie Hampton (two assists), Fries (one assist) and Kiley Scott (one assist).

The Lady Warriors’ varsity and JV teams picked up wins at Rossville on Thursday. Lakeview’s varsity team posted a 25-9, 25-12 win as Kaile Richez had four aces and three service points. Qualls had three aces and four service points. Loyd finished with three kills and Jessy Blevins added four aces.

Rossville got two aces, two digs and a kill from Ladd and a kill and a dig from Strickland. Newbille recorded an ace and a kill, while Cross added one dig.

In the JV match, Lakeview got six aces and five service points from Thompson in a 25-9, 25-18 victory. AnnaBelle Davis picked up four aces to go with eight service points.

Bible had five aces for the Lady Bulldogs, followed by Luttrell with two aces and two kills. Olivia Middlebroo­ks added an ace and a kill. Hicks had an ace and a dig, while I’Yonna Benford served up one ace.
