Morgan, Logan take top volleyball honors in 6-AAAA

The LaFayette Lady Ramblers not only captured a Region 6-AAAA volleyball championsh­ip this season, they also took home the region’s two individual awards.

Senior middle hitter Jillian Morgan was recognized as the Region Player of the Year last Wednesday, while head coach Chris Logan was tabbed as the 6-AAAA Coach of the Year.

Morgan had 396 kills going into Saturday’s state playoff opener against North Oconee. She has a hitting percentage of .444 and has also racked up 62 aces, 107 digs, 58 assists and 114 total blocks — 45 solo.

Her hitting percentage is 10th best in the state of Georgia, according to statistics complied by MaxPreps. She is sixth-best in blocks and is in the Top 20 (18th) in kills so far this season.

Logan has guided the Lady Ramblers to a 46-5 overall record. The 46 victories currently stand as the school’s all-time record.

Two more Lady Ramblers, senior outside hitter Gracie Stier and sophomore setter Colby Charland, were named to the region’s first team, along with Ridgeland senior outside hitter Jayda Jenkins, Heritage senior middle hitter Morgan Trotter, Heritage sophomore setter/middle blocker Lauren Franics, Northwest Whitfield sophomore outside hitter Emma Hayes and Northwest Whitfield sophomore middle hitter Emma Allen.

The second team consists of Ridgeland sophomore middle hitter Justice Devlin, LaFayette junior front row player Imani Cook, LaFayette junior libero Kloe Ludy, Heritage junior middle blocker Kallie Carter, Heritage junior defensive specialist Anna Wilks, Northwest Whitfield senior outside hitter Abigail Crawford and Northwest Whitfield junior outside hitter Kiersten Maynard.

The honorable mention selections featured Ridgeland sophomore libero Brylee Durham, Ridgeland sophomore setter Kailey Boulware, Gilmer sophomore middle hitter Elly Callihan, Gilmer junior libero Hope Colwell, Northwest Whitfield sophomore middle blocker Nicole Thurman, Pickens junior middle blocker Brianna Simpson, Pickens junior setter Emily Laster and Southeast Whitfield junior setter/ outside hitter Anna Boyd.
