LaFayette boys wrap up regular season 6-AAAA title

The LaFayette Ramblers wrapped up the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Region 6-AAAA tournament next week with a 66-42 win at Southeast Whitfield last Tuesday night.

Aidan Hadaway had 20 points for the Ramblers. Junior Barber finished with 17 points. Asa Deal had a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double, while Decameron Porter finished with 11 points and 13 boards. Jaylon Ramsey also dished out 12 assists.

LaFayette boys 78, Gilmer 42

Friday night back in south Walker County, Hadaway and Porter outscored the visiting Bobcats by themselves as the Ramblers steamrolle­d the visitors from Ellijay in the final regular season home game for LaFayette.

Hadaway had 27 points and 11 rebounds while Porter finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds as the Ramblers improved to 19-2 overall and 11-0 in region play.

Deal had 15 points and 12 rebounds. Ramsey finished with eight points and seven assists, while four points by Barber and three points from Isaiah Harris rounded out the scoring.

LaFayette girls 69, Southeast 57

Mykeria Johnson connected on five 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 31 points as the Lady Ramblers got the win. Johnson also recorded three rebounds, four assists and four steals.

LaTyah Barber had 17 points, eight steals and seven assists. Marquila Howell finished with eight points and five rebounds. Savanna Hall added five points and three boards. Heather Tucker scored three points and handed out three assists. Imani Cook scored three points and Nicky Yancy added two points to go with five rebounds and a pair of steals.

Gilmer girls 42, LaFayette 36

The Lady Ramblers gave the region leaders a huge scare, but fell six points short on the scoreboard.

Johnson had 15 points to go with four rebounds, four steals and four blocked shots. Howell had nine points and eight rebounds. Cook chipped in with four points and five boards, while Barber, Yancy, Hall and Anna Valle all had two points each.

Barber added nine rebounds and six steals. Hall had five rebounds and Valle also recorded two blocked shots. LaFayette fell to 12-9 overall and 5-6 in region action with the loss.
