LFO set to start region play on March 10

After four consecutiv­e victories to start the year, the LFO Warriors endured an up-and-down week last week, going 1-3 to see their record fall to 5-3 overall with just one game left on the schedule before the start of Region 6-AAA play.

Southeast 5, LFO 4

Last Tuesday night, the Warriors traveled to Dalton and were edged out by the Raiders.

Even in defeat, Carson McCammon continued his hot start as he went 2 for 4 with a double, two RBIs, a run scored and a stolen base. Josh McAfee was 1 for 3 with a run scored and two stolen bases. Drew Kelley had a double, and Will Carroll and Isaiah Blackburn both were credited with one RBI each.

Riley Mosier pitched four solid innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits with three walks and eight strikeouts. Dylan Blankenshi­p threw two innings of relief for LFO. He did not allow a hit or a run and finished with three strikeouts.

Southeast 9, LFO 5

A second consecutiv­e loss to the Raiders came in Thursday’s rematch, this time back in Fort Oglethorpe.

McCammon and Carroll each had two hits and an RBI for LFO, while Nyko Simpson also drove in a run.

Matthew Shields got the start and ultimately took the loss. He pitched five innings, allowing six earned runs on four hits and six walks. He also finished with nine strikeouts. McAfee and Isaiah Blackburn threw one inning of relief each.

LFO 4, Rome 2

The Warriors snapped the losing streak with a win at home on Friday night. McCammon, Carroll, Devin Hinton and Zac Coots had one RBI each for the Red-and-White, while Hinton paced the offense with two hits.

McCammon struck out nine batters in 6.2 innings to pick up the victory. He allowed six hits and just two earned runs with three walks, while Blankenshi­p needed just three pitches to record the save.

Dalton 7, LFO 3

The Catamounts scored five runs in the top of the third inning to erase an early deficit and went on to a victory in the first game of the Catoosa County Children’s Fund Baseball Classic at LFO on Saturday.

Hinton collected two more hits, scored two runs, drew a walk and stole two bases for the Warriors, while Blankenshi­p had the only other hit. Blankenshi­p also drew a walk and collected an RBI. Mosier had the other RBI for LFO.

Coots got the start and was saddled with the loss. He gave up five earned runs on four hits and two walks in 2.2 innings of work, finishing with two strikeouts. Mosier pitched 3.1 innings of relief. He allowed two earned runs on two hits and four walks with five strikeouts.

LFO (5-3) was scheduled to face Rome again on Monday of this week.
