Gordon Lee splits final two games before 6-A opener

The Gordon Lee Trojans wrapped up their final games before the scheduled start of Region 6-A play with a win and a loss this past weekend.

Gordon Lee lost a pitchers’ duel against visiting St. Anne’s Pacelli of Columbus on Friday, but rebounded with a victory over Heritage on Saturday.

Pacelli 1, Gordon Lee 0

The Trojans managed only one hit in the home loss, a Griff Collins single, while the lone run for the Vikings came in the top of the sixth inning.

Jake Wright pitched three innings for the Trojans. He allowed no runs on two hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Riley King pitched 2.2 innings. He gave up one earned run on four hits and a walk, while Bo Rhudy pitched the final 1.1 innings without allowing a hit.

Gordon Lee 11, Heritage 6

The Navy- and- White bounced back from the loss to beat the Generals in the Catoosa County Children’s Fund Baseball Classic Saturday afternoon at LFO.

Heritage took an early 2-0 lead, but the Trojans would tie things up going into the fourth inning when they erupted for five runs, two coming home on a single by Collins. Gordon Lee would score four more in the fifth inning as Cade Peterson helped out with a tworun blast.

The Generals rounded out the scoring with four runs in the top of the sixth.

Peterson went 3 for 4 with two runs scored and three RBIs for the Trojans (32). Collins had three runs scored to go with his two RBIs. Wright was 2 for 3 with a pair of runs scored, while Nate Dunfee and Cody Thomas each had a hit and two RBIs.

Jake Poindexter got the win for the Trojans. He allowed just two earned runs on two hits with eight strikeouts and no walks allowed in five innings. Jackson Moore, Tanner Wilson and Peterson all pitched in relief.
