Ringgold splits first two Region 6-AAA contests

The Ringgold Tigers opened the Region 6-AAA portion of their schedule last Monday and dropped a decision to longtime region rival Calhoun, but rebounded on Thursday to take down Haralson County.

The Jackets put up a run in the top of the first inning and picked up three additional runs in the top of the third. Hagen Banks got the win for Calhoun. He allowed just two hits over seven innings and finished with nine strikeouts.

Ringgold’s best chance to score came in the bottom of the sixth inning. They put two on in scoring position with two outs, but both runners were left stranded.

Chase Ghormley got the start and suffered the loss. He allowed four earned runs on seven hits and two walks with two strikeouts in three innings of work. Eli Norris pitched the rest of the way. He gave up three hits and walked one with five strikeouts.

Mason Parker and Dylan Wright had the only two hits for Ringgold, both singles.

Ringgold 7, Haralson County 1

The Blue-and-White spotted the visiting Rebels a run in the top of the first inning before scoring seven unanswered the rest of the way to pick up the victory at Bill Womack Field.

Ringgold (7-6, 1-1) would take the lead for good with four runs in the bottom of the first inning, two scoring on a single by Kenyon Ransom. They would add three more in the fifth on three hits, two Haralson County errors and a walk. Ransom would deliver another RBI-hit in the inning to finish the day 2 for 3 with three RBI’s.

the long jump (19-7.5). Other wins for Heritage came from Gavin Chandler in the 1600 (5:08), Noah Lovell in the 110 hurdles (19.78), J.D. Black in the high jump (5-10), Jared Phillips in the triple jump (38-0), Jonathan Washburn in the shot put (41-6.5), Jay Wales in the discus (104-1) and the 4x100 “B” relay team (4:10).

Finishing second for Heritage was Evans in the 200, Chandler in the 3200, Washburn in the discus, Griffin Black in the 400 and Brandon Hamilton in the 110 hurdles.

Paxton McCrary finished third in the 100, in the 200 and in the long jump. Hamilton took third in the 300 hurdles. Jackson Martin tied with Griffin Black for third place in the high jump, while Dylan Hodges was third in the shot put. Heritage’s 4x100 “B” team and its 4x400 “A” team both placed third.

Finishing fourth for the Generals was Justin Lee in the 400 and in the long jump. Collin Black was fourth in the 800. Jake Krajeskiy was fourth in the 3200. Antwaun Powell was fourth in the triple jump and Jessee Fisher was fourth in the discus.

LaFayette’s Jamario Clements raced to a sweep of the 100 (11.68) and the 200 (23.91), while Drake Bing cleared 8-6 to tie for first in the pole vault.

Runner-up finishes for the Ramblers included Trey Taylor in the 100, Josh Perea in the 800, Devin Henderson in the 1600, Colby Thompson in the 300 hurdles and in the pole vault and Evan Williams in the triple jump.

Finishing third for LaFayette was Jack Wilson in the 800, Perea in the 1600, Thompson in the 110 hurdles and Eli Prince in the discus, while fourth-place points were earned by Wilson in the 1600 and Chase Hughes in the shot put.

Gordon Lee picked up a victory from Jake Lee in the 3200 (10:57). Penn Askew won the 300 hurdles (49.39). Colby Casteel tied Bing for first in the pole vault and Gordon Lee’s “A” team won the 4x100 relay (47.96).

Christian Howard was second for the Trojans in the high jump. Hunter Stephens took second place in the long jump. Sam Wells was second in the shot put and Gordon Lee also had runner-up showings by the 4x100 “B” team and the 4x400 “A” team.

Braxton Turnipseed was third in the 400. Casteel placed fourth in the 200. Ryan Eldridge was fourth in the 100 and Levi Helton was fourth in the pole vault for the Navy-and-White.

The only top four finishes for Dade County both came from Noah Hodges,

Members of the LFO and Heritage High School track teams traveled to Gordon County on Thursday for a four-team meet at Gordon Central that also included Armuchee.

The Warriors finished second in the boys’ meet with 49 points, but well off the pace set by Gordon Central (123). Armuchee (28) was third and Heritage (23) was fourth.

Kyle Pursley earned firstplace points for LFO in the high jump (5-10) and in the 200 (24.31), while Blake Thornburg would sweep both the 110 hurdles (17.37) and the 300 hurdles (44.44). Pursley also placed second in the 100, while Thornburg was third in the pole vault.

Other second-place finishers for the Warriors included Jamillion Womble in the long jump. Womble actually tied for the longest distance at 19-1, but had to settle for second on a tiebreaker. The Warriors’ 4x100 “B” team also finished in second place.

Justin Swindle was fourth in the shot put for LFO. Jabari Besely was fourth in the long jump. Jevonnie Womble was fourth in the 100. Blake Arrellano was fourth in the 800 and Logan Carmona took fourth in the 200.

Heritage’s best finish of the day came from Wales, who got second place in the discus. Teammate Jake Davey placed third in the same event.

Other third-place finishers included Isaiah Bryant in the 400, Blake Sanders in the long jump and the Generals’ 4x400 “A” team, while Davis Justice (1600), Harrison Brown (400) and Chandler Bailey (pole vault) all placed fourth.

The lone winner from Catoosa County in the girls’ meet was Paige Monroe, who took pole vault honors for Heritage with a mark of 6-6.

Jasmine Garner was second for Heritage in the discus. Scott placed third in the discus and in the shot put. Riley Kokinda was third in the long jump and in the 100, while Bailey Burt took third place in the 200.

The bulk of LFO’s points came from Taylor Rodreguez, who was second in the long jump and fourth in the high jump, in the 100 and in the 200. The Lady Warriors’ 4x100 “A” team also placed fourth.

Gordon Central ran away with the girls’ team title with 140 points. Armuchee (53) was second, followed by Heritage (26) and LFO (11).
