Heritage Generals salvage Game 3 against Pickens County

The Heritage Generals fell back to even in Region 6-AAAA play after losing two of three games to Pickens during last week’s series.

Pickens 13, Heritage 3

The Dragons erupted for six runs in the bottom of the first inning last Tuesday to give themselves an early cushion at home. Heritage would cut the lead in half with three runs in the top of the second, but Pickens would add to its lead in the fourth and fifth innings before finishing things off in the sixth.

J.T. Eaton had a double and two RBI’s for the Generals. C.J. Robertson also had a double and drove in one run, while Nolen Dietz, Caden Snyder and Ryan Heet all had singles.

Nick Hanson took the loss for Heritage. He pitched four innings, giving up eight runs on seven hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Only three of the runs he allowed were earned.

Pickens 11, Heritage 1

In the second game of the series and the first game of a doublehead­er in Boynton on Wednesday, the visitors from Jasper scored twice in the third inning, added three more in the third and tacked on a run in the fifth before blowing the game open with a five-run sixth inning.

The only run of the game for Heritage came in the bottom of the fourth inning. Robertson golfed a single into left field before stealing second and tagging up to third on a fly ball. He would later score on a sacrifice fly by Heet.

Alex Mixon had a single for the only other hit of the game for Heritage.

Cade Kiniry pitched 4.1 innings, allowing six runs, though only two were earned.

He allowed five hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Mixon pitched the final 1.2 innings. He gave up five earned runs on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts.

Heritage 4, Pickens 0

In Wednesday’s nightcap, both teams managed just four hits, but only the Generals were able to parlay them into runs. Cannon Stafford drew a bases-loaded walk in the first inning and Kiniry laced a two-run double in the sixth before later stealing third base and scoring on a passed ball.

Mixon, Robertson and Pete Padgett also had singles for the Generals (410, 3-3).

Robertson got the victory on the hill. He pitched the first four innings, allowing two hits and one walk with four strikeouts. Snyder struck out four batters and gave up two hits in three innings of work.
