LFO splits court battle with North Murray
The LFO Lady Warriors tennis team picked up a 4-1 Region 6-AAA victory over North Murray last Monday afternoon in Fort Oglethorpe.
LFO made it a clean sweep in singles. Grace Turner won 6-4, 6-4. Julie Shore picked up a 6-2, 6-0 victory, while Abby Garner won her match, 6-3, 6-4.
The team of Zamiyah Ball and Nhi Nguyen lost their match, 6-1, 6-2, but Haley Stahl and Madison Gilliland would rally to post a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 victory to close things out.
The news was not as good for the Warriors, who lost their match by a 4-1 count.
The only point came from Mason Leroy and Harsh Patel, who won their doubles match, 6-2, 6-3.
The other doubles match saw Trey Ware and Gage Vaughn drop a 6-4, 6-3 decision. In singles, Daniel Kellman (6-1, 6-1), Ayvin Christian (62, 6-4) and Malik Ware (6-4, 6-3) all lost their matches.
LFO’s girls dropped a 4-1 decision to Murray County on Thursday.
The lone victory for the Red-andWhite was turned in by Garner, who won her singles match, 6-0, 6-0.
No further results were available as of press time and no details on the boys’ match were available as of press time.
LaFayette sweeps Pickens
The Ramblers moved to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in Region 6-AAAA after blanking Pickens, 5-0, in a match played Thursday afternoon in south Walker County.
In singles, Isaiah Southern picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Dylan Parker won his match, 6-0, 7-5, and Tyler Massingill needed three sets before recording a 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 win.
The team of Andrew Long and Logan Ramey won its doubles match, 6-0, 6-1, while Anthony Collins and Ben Maanum teamed up for a 6-0, 6-3 win.
Cole Spears picked up an 8-1 victory in an exhibition singles match.
The Lady Ramblers (4-0, 3-0) also stayed unbeaten on the season with a 5-0 victory over Pickens.
Singles victories were recorded by
Abby Keys (6-1, 6-3), Grace Hamilton (6-0, 6-0) and Rylee Stansberry (62, 7-5). The team of LaTyah Barber and Kloe Ludy won its match, 6-4, 6-0, while Caylee Purcell and Megan Torbett collected a 6-3, 6-1 win.
Abigail Clark and Anna Willeford won 7-0 in an exhibition doubles match.
Gordon Lee holds off Dade County
The Navy-and-White made the drive to Trenton on Thursday and swept the homestanding Wolverines in a pair of matches.
The Lady Trojans won 3-2 behind a singles win from McKenzie Bailey and doubles wins from the team of Maddie Crowley and Ella Atkinson and the team of Sidney Gasaway and Kayla Bailey.
In the boys’ match, the Trojans posted a 4-1 win as Bradley Stoker and Anthony Peco won in singles. Michael Akins and Sam Fehr won in doubles, as did the brotherly duo of Sam and Will Carswell.
