Three local runners win Chattanoog­a Half-Marathon

Sunday, March 8 was a big day for three young runners from our immediate area.

Competing at the Chattanoog­a Half-Marathon, all three runners won their individual age divisions.

Ringgold High School freshman Elli Grace Roy took first in the Female 1214 division in a time of 2:08.53 over the 13.1-mile course. Roy won her division by almost five full minutes.

LaFayette High’s Hannah Dearing, a UTC signee, clocked in at 1:46.55 to win the Female 15-19 division and did so on her birthday. Dearing won her division by almost seven minutes.

Meanwhile, LaFayette alum Mason Burkett dominated the Male 15-19 division, crossing the line in 1:27.22 to win his division by over 20 minutes.

Ridgeland Hall of Fame banquet

The Ridgeland High School Athletic Hall of Fame will host their third annual Ridgeland Hall of Fame induction ceremony and banquet on April 25. The event will take place at 6 p.m. at Ridgeland High School.

The banquet and ceremony will include dinner, induction of the third class of the Ridgeland Athletic Hall of Fame and presentati­on of the Vonn Bell Athlete of the Year Awards.

Tickets and tables will be sold to the public beginning Tuesday, March 17. Individual tickets will be $30, or whole tables of 8 can be purchased for $275.

Exploring Archery class

There will be an adult beginners’ archery class at the Graysville Gym on April 23 at 6 p.m. at a cost of $5 per person. The class is for adults, ages 18 and up.

graduRUN 5K

Communitie­s In Schools of Catoosa County will hold its 22nd Annual “graduRUN” 5K this Saturday, March 21. The race will begin and end at First Volunteer Bank (5102 Alabama Highway) in Ringgold.

Registrati­on will begin at 6:30 a.m. on the day of the race. The 5K run will start at 8 a.m. and a 1-mile fun walk will begin at 8:05.

The race is course certified and will be a Chattanoog­a Track Club Runner of the Year points race. Medals and cash will go to the top winners, while a new TV and Disney tickets will be among the prizes given away.

Trojan Run 5K

The annual Chick-fil-A Gordon Lee High School 5K Trojan Run/Walk will take place at Gordon Lee High School in Chickamaug­a on May 2.

Packet pick-up and race day registrati­on will be at 6:30 a.m. Race day registrati­on closes at 7:15 and the race will begin at 8.

Awards will be given to the top two male and female finishers and medals will be given to the top two finishers (male and female) in each age group. The awards ceremony will take place following the completion of the race at approximat­ely 9:15.

Parking will be available in the high school horseshoe and the elementary school horseshoe. Post-race snacks and drinks will be provided free of charge for the runners.

Heritage cheer camp

Heritage High School will hold its Mini Generals Cheer Camp on June 15-17 at the Heritage High School gym. The camp is for children, ages 4-12.

The camp will run each day from 9 a.m.-12 noon at a cost of $50 per camper, which includes snacks and a camp t-shirt. Parents may also send snacks with their children for the day.

There will be a camp showcase at 11:30 a.m. on the final day of the camp (June 17). Registrati­on can be done on the Heritage High School website.

Youth baseball clinic

The inaugural Tri-State Premier Baseball Clinic will be held June 1718 for players, ages 8-12, at a cost of $100 per camper. The first session each day will run from 9 a.m.-12 noon, while the second session will run from 1-4 p.m.

The clinic will be held at The Summitt Softball Complex in Ooltewah. Campers will receive t-shirts and concession stand items will be available, but lunch will not be provided.

Camp instructor­s include many familiar names from the area with high school, college and even pro experience. Those names include Logan Peterson, Tyler Payne, Christian Burnett, Logan Baldwin, Jake Rogers and Coach Greg Payne.
