Walker County, local governments, agencies announce closures

In an effort to slow the spread of coronavirus, local governments have made several operational changes to protect the health and safety of employees and residents.

Until further notice, Chickamauga city hall will be closed to the public and will be available by phone only. For the convenience of the city customers, payments can be placed in the drop box located outside the city hall, paid online at www.chickamaugapay. com or mailed to P.O. Box 69,

Chickamauga, GA 30707.

Walker County Government has made the following changes:

Animal Control — On call and only responding to dog bite cases

Animal Shelter — Closed to the public and closed to intake

Assessor’s Office — Limited staff. Business by phone, mail and email. Call 706-6384823. Mailing address is P.O. Box 399, Rock Spring, GA 30739.

Civic/Ag Center — Suspended until further notice

Clerk of Courts — Limited services. Call 706-638-1742 for an appointment.

Codes Enforcement — Suspended until further notice

Commissioner’s Office — Limited staff. Business by phone, mail and email. Call 706-638-1437.

Detention Center — Inmate visitation on site has been suspended. Family and friends who wish to visit with an inmate can visit remotely by logging into securustech.net.

Elections — Limited staff. Call 706-638-4349 for an appointment.

Fire Rescue/E-911 — Mission critical

Landfill — Only accepting municipal solid waste from the public, no brush or construction and demolition

Litter Control — Suspended until further notice

Magistrate Court — Limited services. Call 706-6382852 for an appointment.

Maintenance Shop — On call and responding to emergencies

Mountain Cove Farms — Suspended until further notice

Planning and Zoning — Limited staff. Business by phone, mail and email. Call 706-638-4048

Probate Court — Limited services. Call 706-638-2852 for an appointment.

Sheriff’s Office — Mission critical

Superior Court — Essential cases only. Call 706638-1742 for an appointment.

Tax Commissioner’s Office — Limited staff in Rock Spring; business by phone, mail and email. Fairview office is closed. Call 706-638-2929.
