Ringgold starts out with .500 record in area play

The Ringgold Lady Tigers split their first four Area 6-AAA matches of the season last week, going 1-1 at home last Tuesday and going 1-1 on the road two nights later.

The Blue-and-White fell to No. 5-ranked Sonoravill­e, 25-18 and 25-16, to begin the week, but bounced back later that night to take down Rockmart, 25-10 and 25-11.

Destiny Cavin and Melanie Severns had four kills each for Ringgold against Sonoravill­e with Cavin adding one block. Alayna Custer had six assists and five digs, while Makenna Mercer collected nine digs and one ace.

Also getting on the stat sheet was Cady Helton (3 digs), Gracie Milford (2 digs), Abby Roach (1 ace, 1 kill), Allison Wolfe-Driver (1 assist, 1 dig) and Iley Barnes (1 dig).

In Tuesday’s nightcap, the Lady Tigers rolled as Roach had five aces, five kills and a dig. Severns picked up three kills, two aces, a block and a dig. Cavin added two kills and two digs. WolfeDrive­r had two kills and Custer finished with four aces, 12 assists, two digs and a block.

Other contributo­rs included Milford (5 digs, 1 ace), Mercer (2 digs), Helton (1 dig) and Meredith Fowler (2 aces, 2 digs).

Thursday night at Murray County, Ringgold had little trouble with Adairsvill­e, posting a 25-12, 25-15 victory in the battle of the Lady Tigers.

Severns had nine kills and five digs in the win, while Barnes added five kills. Milford served up four aces to go with two digs and Custer helped out with 13 assists, two digs, an ace and a kill.

Also getting on the stat sheet was Fowler (5 digs, 1 kill), Helton (4 digs, 1 kill), Cavin (2 kills, 1 dig), Roach (2 kills, 1 ace), Wolfe-Driver (2 assists, 1 dig) and Mercer (2 aces, 1 assist, 1 dig).

However, the host Lady Indians spoiled Ringgold’s night with a three-set victory. Ringgold (4-5, 2-2) won the opener, 25-20, but lost the next two sets by scores of 25-18 and 15-13.

Roach paced the offense with six kills while adding two digs. Severns had four kills, two digs and a block and Custer collected 13 assists and seven digs. Cavin picked up three kills, one block, one assist and one dig, while Helton recorded six digs and a kill.

Wolfe-Driver finished with three kills and an assist. Barnes recorded two kills and a dig. Mercer had two aces and four digs. Milford added two aces and three digs, while Fowler had two digs.
