Middle School Volleyball: Area teams wrap up first week of 2020 schedule

The LaFayette Lady Ramblers picked up a 25-13, 2512 varsity victory at Chattanoog­a Valley last Tuesday, while the LaFayette JV team won by scores of 25-8 and 25-15.

Gracie Rambo served up an impressive 14 aces for LaFayette. Mya Woodard and Elizabeth Blas Gonzalez had four aces each, while Gracie Headrick had three aces and a pair of digs.

CVMS head coach Jennifer Hobbs named Allie Young as a standout server with three aces and several unreturnab­le serves. Deborah Gutierrez and Abigail Knight each added one ace.

Heritage sweeps at Rossville

The Lady Generals scored a 25-12, 25-8 win in last Tuesday’s varsity match in Rossville, while the JV Lady Generals won by scores of 25-4 and 25-7.

Individual statistics for Heritage had not been provided as of press time.

Piper Newbille had four aces, a kill, a dig and an assist for the varsity Lady Bulldogs. Callie Hayes finished with a pair of aces and a kill. Stella Stephens had a kill and a dig. Haylee Cross served up one ace and Ana Anguiano added one dig.

In the JV match, Bailey Mincy had a kill for Rossville. Brylee Graham added one dig and McKenzey Moore picked up one ace.

Lakeview topples Trion

The Lakeview varsity volleyball team got 17 service points by Jessy Blevins, 14 by way of an ace, as they rolled at Trion, 25-10, 25-11, last Tuesday.

The Red-and-White also won the JV match by scores of 25-14 and 25-11 as Katie Vinyard finished with 13 service points.

Gordon Lee dominates

Gordon Lee got 16 straight service points by Reese Roberts last Tuesday and the Lady Trojans cruised to a 25-7, 25-4 win over Dade. Jaley Haney also had 14 straight serves during the match.

Ringgold corrals Saddle Ridge

Last Tuesday was a successful one for the homestandi­ng Lady Tigers who defeated Saddle Ridge by identical 25-13 scores.

Kayleigh Carpenter had five aces, two kills and six assists for the winners. Brooke Baldwin served up five aces to go with four assists and a pair of kills. Faith Keisling and Kaylie Hampton both had two aces each, while Emma Varnell and Adyson Stoner each added an ace.

For the Lady Mustangs, Cheyenne Swanson had nine assists and a dig. Caydence Tinklepaug­h finished with seven digs and two assists. Mary Alice Ertz added three digs and two aces, while Lydia Haggard picked up four digs and an ace.

Also getting on the stat sheet for Saddle Ridge was Macee Casteel (1 ace, 1 block, 1 kill), M.K. Thurman (3 assists), Emma Hixson (2 digs, 1 kill) and Alesia Leaks (1 kill).

Ringgold also claimed victory in the JV match, 25-21, 11-25 and 15-5.

The Lady Tigers got eight aces and two assists from Natalie Crane, three aces from London Franklin and two aces and two assists each from Morgan Dinkins and Karis Neff in the win.

Jasmin Felipe served up seven aces for the Lady Mustangs to go with six digs and an assist. Addison McNabb had two aces, a kill and 15 digs. Kennedy McNabb added four digs and three kills, while L.C. Mullaly recorded four aces, three assists and one kill.

Other contributo­rs for Saddle Ridge included Alexa Cannon (2 aces, 2 digs), Gracie Pierce (2 kills, 1 ace, 1 dig), Libby Kate Parnell (2 digs) and Anabelle Penland and Della Harris (1 dig each).

Saddle Ridge bounces back at home

The Lady Mustangs broke through with a sweep of Trion Thursday night in Rock Spring.

The varsity team scored a 25-16, 25-18 win behind six aces, 10 assists, four digs and two kills from Tinklepaug­h, six aces, six digs and two kills from Haggard and two aces, four digs and a kill from Brynna Fredericks­on.

Other contributo­rs included Swanson (5 assists, 2 digs), Addison McNabb (3 aces, 5 digs), Lanie Hamilton (8 digs), Casteel (4 digs, 2 kills,

1 ace), Leaks (5 kills, 1 assist, 1 dig), Hixson (4 digs) and Olivia White (2 assists, 1 kill).

The Navy-and-Red took the JV match by scores of 25-14 and 25-11.

Cheyanne Catlett served up nine aces, followed by seven from Felipe, who also had a kill and a dig. Campbell Crutcher recorded five aces and Pierce had four aces and one assist. One assist, one dig and one kill by Mullaly, one kill by Harris and one kill and one dig from Penland rounded out the stats.

Ringgold varsity rolls in Trenton

The Lady Tigers picked up their second win of the week with a 25-7, 25-17 win at Dade County on Thursday.

Baldwin led the way with 12 aces. Maddox Hollingswo­rth recorded five aces, five hits and five assists. Varnell finished with five aces, five assists and four hits. Kinsey Miller collected three aces, a hit and one assist, while five assists and one hit from Stoner and six hits and four assists from Jacey Woodard

rounded out the stats.

Ringgold’s JV squad suffered a three-set loss. They won the first set, 25-18, but lost 25-18 in the second set before Dade squeezed past them in the third-set tiebreaker, 15-13.

Kiley Scott recorded six aces, a hit and an assist in the loss, while Sadie Prichard and Lyla Watson both had two aces.

Lakeview wins at home

The Lady Warriors hosted Rossville this past Thursday and picked up a win in the day’s varsity match by scores of 25-7 and 25-14. Mercedes Thompson had 15 service points and 10 aces for Lakeview, while AnnaBelle Davis added 11 service points and five aces.

Newbille and Stephens each had a kill for Rossville in the loss, while Newbille added one assist. Olivia Middlebroo­ks recorded a team-high three aces. Hayes picked up one ace and Cross added an ace and two digs.

In the JV match, Lakeview needed three sets to post a 24-26, 25-12, 15-8 victory.

McKinley Slatton led the Red-and-White with nine service points to go with three aces.

Gordon Lee 13, Trion 5

The Lady Trojans scored nine times in the first two innings and racked up 19 hits in a road win on Thursday that moved them to 4-0 on the season.

Tenslee Wilson went 4 for 5 with four RBIs, including a pair of doubles. Gracie Helton was 2 for 5 with a double and three RBIs. Gisele Tankersly went 3 for 4 and knocked in three runs, while Chambers had three hits and scored three times.

Charslie McElhaney had two hits and knocked in a run and Sadie Hughes also added an RBI in support of McCullough, who pitched all seven innings.

She allowed four earned runs on eight hits and struck out five batters. She threw 84 pitches, 64 of which went for strikes.

Gordon Lee’s Friday game at Dalton was rained out.

LaFayette 9, Ringgold 8

The Lady Ramblers trailed twice in the game, including an 8-6 deficit going into the seventh inning, but found a way to rally for the league win.

the Lady Bulldogs. Cameron Roe had two aces and a pair of kills. Marlee Jakupovic and Wilma Wilson each had one and one kill. Naomi Dawon picked up one ace and Liahna North had one dig.

Gordon Lee holds off LaFayette

The Lady Trojans rallied from a set down to win at LaFayette, 16-25, 25-6 and 25-13 in a varsity match on Thursday.

Head coach Tammy Harkleroad named Roberts and Haney as standout servers in the win as both had several aces. Lexi Foster, a first-year eighth grader, contribute­d two kills from the back row, while Addison Cagle recorded four total kills for Gordon Lee.

Individual statistics for the Lady Ramblers had not been reported as of press time.

Heritage sweeps Chattanoog­a Valley

In one other set of matches from Thursday, Heritage picked up two wins over the Lady Eagles. Heritage won 25-12 and 25-11 in the varsity match and 25-16 and 25-6 in the JV match.

No individual statistics for either team had been reported as of press time.

Raby homered for the Lady Tigers and drew two intentiona­l walks. Arianna Battle had a double as one of her two hits.

Breanna Freeman and Emma Stephenson also added doubles, while Branum was 1 for 4 with a single.

Heritage 8, Dade 1

Edwards lost a no-hitter with two outs in the seventh inning, but finished with a 13-strikeout, two-hitter on Thursday.

It was Edwards’ third game of the 2020 season with 10 or more K’s.

Collins led the Generals with three hits, including a double. Jenna Ryans had two hits, including a triple, and drove in three runs. Lily Krajesky was 2 for 4 with a RBI, while Bree Wilson and Brook Wilson knocked in one run apiece.
