LaFayette falls in cross county rivalry match

The LaFayette Lady Ramblers traveled north up Highway 27 to Chickamaug­a this last Thursday night and suffered a three-set loss to host Gordon Lee, though they also picked up a non-area win over 6-AAA foe Rockmart,

LaFayette opened with a 25-9, 25-9 win over the Lady Jackets and went up one set to none in the nightcap after a 25-22 win over Gordon Lee in the initial set. But GL answered with a 25-18 win in the second set and went on the victory after winning 1512 in the third.

Colby Charland had 29 assists for LaFayette to go with five kills, five blocks, four aces and three digs. Markella Johnson had 12 kills and four aces. Sarah Ray finished with eight kills, three aces and two blocks, while Imani Cook chipped in with six kills and three blocks.

Jaden Tucker had six kills. Alex Wysong finished the night with four kills, three aces and three digs, while Shelly Warren added one kill. Kloe Ludy had 13 digs and Daisy Felipe added 10 digs to go with a pair of aces.

LaFayette (33-5) was slated to join Heritage for a bigtime tri-match at Northwest Whitfield on Tuesday of this week involving three highlyrank­ed state teams.

The junior varsity Lady Ramblers completed a 28-1 season by winning the Coahulla Creek JV Finale Tournament on Saturday, and did so without dropping a single set.

In pool play, LaFayette raced past Rome, 25-5, 25-6, and took down Ridgeland, 25-23, 25-5, before a 25-3, 25-14 victory over Ringgold. They closed out pool play with a 25-14, 2516 win over Coahulla Creek.

In the semifinals, LaFayette stopped Northwest Whitfield, 25-14, 25-16, before a 25-18, 25-13 win over Heritage in the finals.
