LaFayette, Heritage battle Dade in tri-match

The Dade Wolverines earned two narrow victories on Heritage and LaFayette in a tri-match at LaFayette this past Thursday, while the Generals got past the Ramblers in the night’s other bout.

LaFayette fell to Dade by a 48-42 count. The Ramblers finished the match with pins from Connor Campbell (72 pounds), Wyatt Lovern (86), Hagen Baker (115), Matt Thompson (123), Jaxson Alexander (140) and Trevor McDowell (165), while Braden Miller (150) recorded six points on a forfeit.

Heritage took down LaFayette, 48-36, in their match as the Generals got pins from Billy Hamilton (78), Riley Womack (86), Caden Simpson (108), Cameron Blankenshi­p (123) and Brayden Greene (130). Andy Garcia (94) and River Heisler (180) won by forfeit.

LaFayette’s points came on pins by Campbell (72), Baker (115) and Miller (140) with Hagen English (100), McDowell (150) and Benji Foley (220) winning by forfeit.

The other match of the night saw the Wolverines slip past the Generals, 42-39.

Garett Healey (72), Womack (86), Garcia (94), Hayden Scheeler (115), Blankenshi­p (123) and Josh Butler (140) won by pin for Heritage, while Hamilton (78) earned a minor decision.

Saddle Ridge second at Walker Cup

The Mat Mustangs opened the 2020 middle school wrestling season on Saturday,

Nov. 7 at Gordon Lee by going 3-1 at the annual Walker County Cup to earn runnerup honors.

Saddle Ridge began the day with a 66-18 win over Chattanoog­a Valley. Athens Parker, Isaac Hamilton, Malachi Miller, Parker Greco, Jacob Bond, Spencer Chadwick, Micah Smith, Bentley Cannington, Kaleb Burris, Holden Ballew and Jack Harris all scored pins for the Mustangs.

In their next match, the Mustangs dropped a narrow 39-37 decision to the host Trojans. Parker and Ballew both won by pin for Saddle Ridge. Bond earned a major decision, while regular decisions were picked up by Miller, Smith, Burris and Chadwick with Chadwick’s win coming in overtime.

Riley Medford and Peyton Keefe both won by pinfall in exhibition matches against Gordon Lee.

Saddle Ridge rebounded with a 66-21 victory over Rossville behind pins from Parker, Miller, Greco, Bond, Chadwick, Smith, Cannington and Burris. Ballew, Harris and Collin Miller each won by forfeit.

In their last match of the day, the Navy-and-Red defeated LaFayette, 56-21, as Hamilton, Greco, Smith, Cannington, Harris, Burris and Malachi Miller won with pins. Ballew scored a forfeit and Bond claimed a technical fall.

Gordon Lee went 4-0 to win the cup. The Trojans also picked up wins over Chattanoog­a Valley (78-12), Rossville (80-6) and LaFayette (72-15).
